John Gill Silke and Anne Date

Information provided by who has this website

I would like to correct some of the information, showing the descendants of John Gill SILKE and Anne DATE. The main difference is that he was John not Jonathon also they did not have a son James and John Hurley is not their son either.
See the following details:-

JOHN GILL SILKE was baptised on 8th October 1805 at Fiddington in Somerset, England. He was the eldest son of John Gill Silke and Ann (nee HAWKINS). He married on 24th March 1832, at Williton Chapel in the parish of St Decumans to Anne DATE. 'They lived at "Ball Farm", Woolmerston near North Petherton where John was a tenant farmer and their ten children were born.
John, Anne and their ten children left England on 4th June, 1850 and arrived at Port Phillip, Australia on 23rd September 1850, aboard the sailing ship Oriental. On the same voyage were Anne's sister Elizabeth Date, her husband John Leversha and four children (Thomas, William, Louisa & John Henry).
The family lived in a cottage in Little Bourke Street, Melbourne, in 1851. Their next home was a store in Wellington Street, Collingwood.
It was here that Anne died on 4th April 1854. (Reg No 2157) The family then moved to Bendigo, where eldest daughter, Elizabeth had already settled with her husband George Albert Howe and William was working on the goldfields there also.
By 1856, John was a publican at the "Union Hotel" in Inglewood Street, Specimen Hill, at the Head of Long Gully. He was a farmer on the Bullock Creek, 9 miles west of Bendigo, in 1863-4. In 1865, John settled on Murphy's Flat with son, Edward. William and son-in-law, Samuel Rae, shared part of the first selection. Henry also selected a block of land on Murphy's Flat.
John Gill Silke died on 4th October 1879, and was buried in the Tarnagulla cemetery. (Reg No 11959)
