Hereditary Diseases

We all care about our dogs, but caring is not enough. Without knowledge we can be slow to help our dogs in times of need.

Heredity plays a large part in animal disease, either in directly causing skeletal, skin, or endocrine defects, or by making the animal more susceptible to other disease agents. Although animals may be bred for resistance to specific disease agents, breeders must be alert, however, for unwanted characteristics that may accompany desirable ones in the genetic apparatus.

There are far too many hereditary diseases for me to list, in fact some 350 or more! So, with help from other Anatolian owners from countries outside of the UK, I hope to bring you a little information on what is tested for.
