Graduated from Florida International University, Andy Garcia is one of the most talented actors in the world with the best looks, but is unfairly underrated. He made his breakthrough in 8 Million Ways to Die in 1986, and earned his stardom in Godfather III with Oscar and Golden Globe nominations in 1991. For most female Andy Garcia fans, his best character is the dreamed-of husband in When a Man Loves a Woman. The highly acclaimed Night Falls on Manhattan proves his intensity in acting. A star bearing his name was honored to him on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1995.
Garcia's talent is not limited to acting. It extends into music. He produced and directed a feature length documentary concert film Cachao como su ritmo no hay dos (like his rhythm there is no other), and produced and performed on the music record Cachao Master Sessions Volume I, and II, which earned him a 1994 Grammy Award, and a nomination in 1995. He wrote and sang songs in Steal Big, Steal Little and Just The Ticket.
Garcia's fame in Hollywood is also attributed to his life style. A husband and father who happens to be an actor, Garcia is a devoted family man. He spends all his off-work time with his wife of 23 years and his three daughters. He fights fiercely to protect his family and their privacy, and sets himself as a moral example to his children. This wonderful dad earned the title of "Father of the Year" in 1998.
Being a successful American, Garcia doesn't forget his Hispanic heritage and Cuban roots, and is loyal to their culture. He has been involved in a number of Hispanic movies and directed the feature length documentary concert film Cachao como su ritmo no hay dos (like his rhythm there is no other) and produced Cachao Master Session Vol. I and Vol. II in honor of the Cuban musician, the mambo artist Israel Lopez "Cachao". He is going to direct and star in the movie The Lost City, an epic about the Cuban Revolution. Due to his outstanding contribution, he was honored with the Harvard University Foundation Award for the American Performing Arts and Intercultural Relations, and a Hispanic Heritage Award for the arts.
Pure man Andy Garcia dedicates himself to art. Money and fame is not what he pursues. He refuses to do nude scenes and doesn't choose roles for box-office potential. He rejected roles of "blockbuster" movies which could have turned him into mega-star. Like gold, shining and heavy, Garcia is a quiet star. He never floats around to seek fame. You don't see his photos fly around you. Not often, can you watch him in a TV interview. He stays out of Hollywood society and leads a peaceful life with his loving family. Unlike other celebrities, this great man doesn't have a publicist. He doesn't even have his own home page on the Internet. The most web sites dedicated to him were made by his fans.
I absolutely love Andy Garcia, not only because he is a great actor with handsome looks, but also because he is a wonderful human being. Among numerous stars in Hollywood, he is the only one possessing such integrity and perfection, which make him so special and unique. His good looks color my life and his good heart inspires my spirit. However, his talent is underrated and his moral values are unrecognized. As a loyal Andy fan, I hope his true value can be recognized, since I believe this recognition can do some good to this world.
