Precise Geodesy with GPS
Permanent GPS arrays (PGA's) or Active Control Networks (ACS) consist of a number of permanent reference GPS stations, which are continuously tracking all visible satellites, and one or more facilities for collecting and processing the GPS measurements, and archiving and distributing this data, together with derived products, such as satellite orbits and clock parameters, time series of reference station coordinates and velocities, and atmospheric parameters. This specialized concept of GPS is being used today in a number of scientific and practical applications, such as: Maintenance of reference systems Κ Determination of satellite orbits and Earth rotation parameters Κ Atmospheric research and meteorology Κ Monitoring of deformations, such as land subsidence and uplift and crustal deformations at tectonic plate boundaries Κ Monitoring of sea level rise Κ Surveying and mapping Κ Positioning for GIS/LIS applications Κ Real-time navigation
