Overcome  Tribulation  through

The  Lord  Jesus  Christ

The Lord Jesus Christ spoke to His Disciples:  “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace.  In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”  (Jn. 16:33)  Jesus encouraged His disciples not to worry when they encountered tribulation that is to be expected when they lived in this world.  He had promised to take care of them and give them peace.

Two  Kinds  of  Tribulation

n         Personal    “Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.”  (1 Pet. 4:12-13)

“And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance;  (Rom. 5:3)

n         Universal    “For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.”  (Mt. 24:21)

“Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world , to test those who dwell on the earth.” (Rev. 3:10)

Why  Do  Christians  go  through  the  Tribulation ?

n         As Children of God Christians suffer with the Lord Jesus Christ

“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs  -  heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.  For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”  (Rom. 8:16-18)

n         Tribulation  develops  Christian  Character

“And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character, and character, hope.”  (Rom. 5:3-4)

Joseph went through tribulation in his early years at home and later became a high official in Egypt to save his family.

Testimony of Elder Huang in San San (3 mountain) Church, China.

Elder Huang was imprisoned for 17 years by the Chinese Communist government for refusing to deny the existence of the One True God in the Lord Jesus Christ.  His prison cell has a small window with the distant view of his home.  Every morning he looked out the window and saw his son passing by on his way to school.  He would pray for his son to come to the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.  By the time Elder Huang was released from prison his son did believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.  His son received a Ph.D degree from Imperial College, London.  Elder Huang said that he would go to prison for another 17 years if he had to because he was faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ and it made him a better Christian.

n         Going through the Tribulation  train  Christians  to  comfort  Others

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,  who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.”  (2 Cor. 1:3-5)

Testimony of Sister Liew of TJC in Cambridge, U.K.

Brother John Liew, a civil engineer, had a very successful bean sprout business in Cambridge, England.  He built a very nice home on a large piece of land where the church met every Sabbath day.  John died of stomach cancer in his mid fifties.  His wife Sister Liew was very depressed and their son, a freshman at college at that time, became bitter from the tragedy and he stopped attending church services.

Sister Liew requested the General Assembly in U.K. to send a church minister to counsel their family but there was no trained Christian counselor.  She prayed to the Lord Jesus Christ to help her get through the tribulation.  After her days of mourning she took a university course in Christian counseling.   After graduation she volunteered herself as a Christian counselor for the Church in the United Kingdom.  Praise God, her son’s faith was revived and he came back to the church.

Going  through  the  Tribulation

to  Enter  the  Kingdom  of  God

n         “Strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, ‘We must through many tribulations enter the Kingdom of God.”  (Acts 14:22)

n           “ I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.” (Rev. 1:9)

Will  Christians  go  through  the  Great  Tribulation ?

There are some denominational churches that teach Christians will not go through the Great Tribulation.  They will be raptured and go to heaven before the Great Tribulation.  This is not what the Lord Jesus Christ prophesied.  Here is what He said.

n         “And unless those days are shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.” (Mt. 24:22)

The “elect” refers to Christians (Rom. 8:33-37; Col. 3:12-15)  The Christians will still be in the world during the Great Tribulation.

God  provides  a  Way  of  Escape

n         “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly.  For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth.  Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man."  (Lk. 21:34-36)

A  Place  of  Refuge  in  the  Wilderness

n         “Now when the dragon saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male Child.  But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent.”  (Rev. 12:13-14)

n         The Lord Jesus Christ instructed His disciples: “Then let those who in Judea flee to the mountains.” (Mt. 24:16)

The  Place  of  Refuge  for  the  Early  Apostolic  Church

Many biblical scholars believe the Early Christians followed the instructions of the Lord Jesus Christ, and evacuated to Petra a city in the mountainous region of Jordan, which is about 100 miles south of Jerusalem. In the year 70 A.D. the Roman army surrounded and beseiged the city of Jerusalem. The temple was destroyed as prophesied by the Lord Jesus Christ.

Petra is an ancient city in Jordan, which was the capitol of the Nabataean empire. This city was a trade route for many people in ancient times because it runs from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. Towering cliffs form a narrow entrance that opens into a large valley of cliff dwellings.

In this city all of the buildings were carved into a cliff.

This city shows an amazing feat of engineering in ancient times because it is carved out of cliffs and has an efficient waterway system. This city at its peak held between 20,000 and 30,000 people.

Petra is a good example of a city of self-sufficiency that serves as a Refuge for God's people during the time of the Great Tribulation.

God  prepared  Place  of  Refuge  for  our  Church  in  China

Praise and thank our Lord Jesus Christ for giving me an opportunity to visit one of our “Underground House Churches” in the mountain area of Fujian Province, China.  In April 1987 a church brother who is a member of that Underground House Church accompanied me all the way from Hong Kong (by air) to Fuzhou, then by road to that place. After driving many hours we came to the end of the mountain road, and we had to walk about five (Chinese) lis that is equal to one and a half miles (2.5 kilometers) to a mountain village.

The brother pointed out to me the church building on top of the hill. I was surprised to see the name of our church on the front wall of the building because at that time the Communist government did not allow any denominational church name to be displayed. The brother explained to me that was an “Undergound House Church” in a remote and secluded mountain village. The Communist government did not bother them. He said, “We are free to worship the One True God just as we have been in the past.”

That Underground House Church is not registered with the Communist government controlled “Three Self Patriotic Movement”. The church is located in an independent, self-reliant and self-sufficient community. They raise their own animals for meat and grow their own food in a communal vegetable garden, and they carry water drawn from a community well to their homes. There are no automobiles, no electric power, no gas, no piped water and no sewage system. In the evening the church members carried kerosene lamps and walked to the church building where worship services were conducted. I had the blessed privilege of preaching in that mountain Underground House Church.

God  has  prepared  several  Christian   Camps  in  Texas

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) operates three Hurricane Emergency Shelters for people living in the coastal areas of Galveston and the low lying areas in Houston that are subject to floods due to the surge in a hurricane. These three Hurricane Emergency Shelters are located in Huntsville, College Station (Bryan) and Brenham because they are at least 100 miles inland from the coast of Galveston. There are also several Christian and Youth camps that are located north of the Hurricane Safety Line as shown in the map below.

The illustration in the map below shows the hurricane weakens as soon as it makes landfall on the coast and continues inland. A Category 2 Hurricane is reduced to become a Tropical Storm when it reaches more than 100 miles inland.

This is one of the reasons why many Christian denominational churches and Youth organizations in the Houston and Galveston areas locate their Camps and Retreat Centers north of the Hurricane Safety Line near these three FEMA Hurricane Shelters. These Christian camps and Retreat Centers can also serve as Emergency Hurricane Shelters for their Church members. Residents in this area of Texas did not have any damage to their homes and property, or have electric power outages when Hurricane Ike struck Houston on September 13, 2008.

God  Protects  Christian  Camps  in  the  End  Time

n         They (Satanic forces) went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.” (Rev. 20:9)

n         “And they (Christians) overcame him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” (Rev. 12:11)

Jesus  Christ  helps  Christians  Overcome  the  Tribulation

n          Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: "For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter." Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”  (Rom. 8:35-37)

Jesus  Christ  will  return  after  the  Great  Tribulation

n          “Immediately after the Tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.  Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.”  (Mt. 24:29-30)

Those  who  go  through  the

Great  Tribulation  will  go  to  Heaven

n         “After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands.” (Rev. 7:9)

“And I said to him, ‘Sir, you know,’  So he said to me, ‘These are the ones who come out of the Great Tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.”  (Rev. 7:14)

Special Note: Church (TJC) Members, Apostolic Sabbath-keeping Christians and Messianic Jews who would like to prepare with other believers of the same faith to overcome the Great Tribulation through the Lord Jesus Christ, and are interested in homesteading in this area (Washington County) of Texas, are invited to write to me at the email address below.

May God bless you
