A New Dawn

Chapter Two: The First Battle

As the cat approached, Dia saw that it was carrying what looked like a blue pen in its mouth. She was surprised to see it again, and wondered what it was doing amist all this chaos.

"Quick, take this!!" the cat commanded, tossing Dia the pen. "Yell 'Mercury Power'!!"

Dia caught the pen but was frozen in shock. That cat had just talked to her. And what was this stuff about "Mercury Power"?

"I--I don't understand," she stammered

"Don't question me just do it!!" the cat cried desperately.

Oh, well, Dia thought. As if this afternoon could get any weirder!

"Mercury Power!!!"

Dia was amazed as her clothes melted away and she was surrounded by a blue light. She watched as ribbons of water streamed from the top of the pen. They wrapped around her body, and she could feel their energy surrounding her. Then suddenly they were absorbed into her body, their energy flowing through her veins, empowering her. She felt strong, and a feeling of intense determination came over her. She couldn't help but pose. Dia was ready to fight, but she wasn't sure exactly what she was supposed to do! She looked at her hands, and realized with great shock that she was now wearing elbow-length white gloves. She examined the rest of her new outfit that had been formed by the ribbons of water. It looked like some sort of sailor suit, but it was very tight and had a ridiculously short blue skirt. Knee-high blue boots finished off the uniform. She looked up and saw her reflection in store window. People were running all around her, and she was nearly knocked over as she stared at the image of herself. No one seemed to have noticed what had happened.

"Oh my God, my hair is blue!!!" she screamed.

"You can worry about that later," the cat huffed. "Now you have a youma to fight!!"

"What do mean, me have a youma to fight!!"

"Hey, look at the prissy little sailor girl!" Dragonia sneered. "How about a barbeque?"

The creature hurled a fireball at Dia. She just managed to get out of the way before it hit the building behind her, engulfing it in flames.

"What do I do?!" Dia pleaded, looking desperately at the cat.

"Yell 'Mercury Bubbles Blast'!!" the cat instructed as ducked behind a garbage can to avoid another one of Dragonia's attacks.

Unsure of exactly what would happen, Dia cried, "Mercury Bubbles . . ."

She rose up into the air, and a ball of watery engery formed in between her outstreched hands. She spun around, and the ball grew. All of these motions were new to her, yet it seemed like she had gone through them hundreds of times before. She crossed her arms in front of her face, ready to unleash the attack.

"BLAST!!!"

The ball expanded to form a thick fog around her and Dragonia.

"What's going on? I can't see a thing!" the youma exclaimed in surprise.

"I can't see anything either!" Dia cried, searching the mist for the talking cat. She toppled over in pain as blast of flame hit her side. She fell to the ground. "You didn't tell me this was going to hurt!!"

"Press your right earring!" the cat called from somewhere behind her.

Dia managed to pull herself to a standing position. I'm not hurt that badly, she thought. Only a few burns. She followed the cat's instructions, and a blue visor appeared over her eyes, enabling her to see in the fog.

"Now what do I do?"

Luna paused. She knew that Sailor Mercury wouldn't be able to destroy the youma, only Sailor Moon could do that. Stupid, stupid cat, she criticized herself. You should have planned for this!

"Um . . . yell 'Mercury Bubbles Freeze'!"

"Mercury Bubbles . . ." Dia went through the same movements as her previous attack.

"FREEZE!!"

This time, however, the ball flew straight at Dragonia, encasing the surprised yuma in a thick layer of ice and rendering her immobile.

"YEY!!!! THREE CHEERS FOR THE SAILOR GIRL!!!!" the crowd of bystanders cried.

Dia turned around to see the people waving their arms and cheering for her. I could get used to this, she thought.
