  Lanah, The T-AARF Mascot

You may or may not know about the dog situation in Taiwan. About how there are more than 2 million stray dogs on Taiwan.  About how there are no laws preventing cruelty to animals. About how there are no humane societies, no shelters. Dog pounds in Taiwan are just garbage dumps where dogs that have been rounded up are left, until something worse happens. You probably don't know that at these pounds, euthanasia isn't practiced as a means of trying to solve the population problem- electrocution, drowning, burning and starving are. According to the World Society for the Protection of Animals, Taiwan is the worst place in the world for animals.

The Taipei Abandoned Animal Rescue Foundation (T-AARF) was established 4 years ago with the hopes to provide a few lucky dogs a second chance for life and love. We know every one of the dogs we have for adoption. We love every one.  We can tell you in detail about the dogs - whether they like other dogs, cats, kids.  What they enjoy. What kind of food they like.  We take the time to understand their needs and what kind of home they would do best in.  We are a no-kill shelter and the dogs stay with us until we can find the home that is right for them.  We do overseas/long distance adoptions to good homes or rescue organizations through our "Wings for Pets" program, where they have better chances finding good, loving homes.  Please take a moment and look at the dogs we have needing homes, find out more about the situation in Taiwan, and about us. And if you can't adopt, please consider donating to our cause. We can only go on with our work as long as we have the money to do so.

MISSION: DOGLIFT 2004!
dogs

Although this site has not been updated recently, rest assured we have been hard at work with the newest Lifeline Trip, which took place Febuary 12th-20th, 2004. A total of 12 dogs where brought back to the United States with YOUR help, and several of them have already been adopted, and several others are still looking for homes.

Durning the Lifeline Trip, T-AARF director Mina Sharpe flew to Taiwan, and visited several public and private animal shelters. From these facilities, 12 lucky dogs where rescued and brought back to the temporary T-AARF shelter in Taipei at the Yang Ming Veterinary Clinic. After their 5 day stay there, where each dog was spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and tested for heartworm and given any other medical treatment they required, the entire group traveled as Mina's excess baggage back to the United States! Many dogs have arrived at some of our partner shelters around the US, and several others have traveled to homes across North America where they are quickly settling into their new, wonderful lives!

Look below in our adoptable section to see the dogs that where brought back, and keep checking here for updates. A full report on the current status of dogs in Taiwan is in the works, as well as several Photo-essays on several pounds we visited while in Taiwan.

In the meantime, as usual, we are in terrible debt from our trip! Help us recover, and to start planning the next (falll 2004, hopefully!) by donating today!

Available for Adoption
The following dogs are all from our shelter in Taiwan who have made the big trip to the USA to find homes through foster homes and shelters! If you are interested in any of these dogs, please email us at rococoms@aol.com and we will put you in touch with the appropriate people!

Nemo
nemo
Rescued from the Kill Shelter at Nei-Hu, his one blue eye may make him look cute, but it almost was the cause of his death! Nemo's left eye has a juvenile cataract, and does not have much vision, but it doesn't slow him down one bit, and it certainly shouldn't have been why he was dumped at the shelter to die. Unfortunatley it was, but we couldn't possibly have let this sweet boy go! Nemo is a 18 month old purebred Shih Tzu, a little on the plump size, but very friendly and happy. His other eye is normal, and Nemo would do great in a home with or without other dogs! Nemo is happy, laid back, easy going and just a lover-boy! He's partially housetrained, very quiet and well behaved. He's just a sweetie, love starved and ready to come home to you! Available for Adoption in San Diego, CA. For more information, contact Cause for Paws Rescue.
Rusty

Rescued from a high kill pound at Nei-Hu, Rusty is a very unusual looking boy- Terrier and Powerderpuff Chinese Crested is our best guess as to his breed, but who knows- all we know is that he's VERY UNIQUE, and SO SO SWEET! , His cute looks and great personality has already turned plenty of heads! And at 10 lbs and 4 years old, he's just a perfect dog in every way! Rusty is well behaved, quiet, and would do great in an apartment setting, provided he could go for his favorite passtime every day- his walks! Rusty would prefer to either be an only dog, or just have a female dog as his "sister". He is healthy, neutered, and ready to come home to you!
Available for Adoption in San Diego, CA. For more information, contact Cause for Paws Rescue.
Miles

Dumped at a kill pound at Nei Hu because he had a cough, Miles spent a month there being looked over and ignored. He was sceduled to be killed the day we saw and rescued him, but he's safe now, and just a wonderful, beautiful dog. We have determined that his cough is part of a heart condition that will is managable with inexpensive medicine and love, but he will have to find a home willing to put the effort into him.  Miles is about 8lbs, and 7 years old. He's extremley sweet, and wants nothing more to be a lap dog ALL THE TIME! He's good with other dogs, and so, so sweet!
Available for Adoption in San Diego, CA. For more information, contact Cause for Paws Rescue.
Alley
alley

Meet "Alley", named for where she was found, wandering in shell shock after being hit by a car! Although microchipped, her owner could not be located, and the choice was made to have her join the group of Taiwan dogs coming to America for homes, instead of being put to sleep as an inured stray. She is thin and suffering from some slight hair loss due to severe flea infestation, but is otherwise healthy, and with time will be good as new. She is about 3 years old, and about 30 lbs, and is just a lovley girl who desperatley wants to be treated well. She is housetrained, good with kids, tolerates cats, and is such a love of a girl. Laid back, quiet and sweet as can be, Alley is everything you could ever want in a little girl!
Available for Adoption in San Diego, CA. For more information, contact Cause for Paws Rescue.

Nicky
nicky

"Nicky"s photo can't begin to do him justice- you have to meet him for yourself to see what a stunning little boy he is! He has a full coat with gorgeous brindle coloring, a sheltie head and tail, and plenty of good old fashioned mutt thrown in for good measure! On top of being a beautiful dog, he's also incredibly intelligent, housetrained and has some obedience training! He is sweet, energetic, wonderful, smart and great with everybody! He is about 9 months old, full grown at 18 lbs, and has so much love and life to give!
Available for Adoption in Los Angeles, CA.. For more information, contact Southland Sheltie Rescue.

 Sneakers
sneakers

If you come meet this boy, plan on taking him home- you will fall in love! This little boy was our special stole-away on the trip over here- we didn't know he was coming, and we weren't going to bring him until literally the last moment, then sentiment won out! Boy, are we glad we brought him! About 3 months old and 6 lbs, we're not entireley sure what exactly his mix was, but he appears to be Lhasa Apso and Terrier, and he's adorable, sweet and VERY SMART! He should grow to be under 20 lbs, and is just as sweetie!

Sneakers has been ADOPTED!!!! He is now living in Mission Viejo, CA!

Clairesse
t
This beautiful girl was in such terrible condition at the shelter, with the most infected ears and eyes we have ever seen. Even so, she was so loving and exited to get attention. Now out of the shelter, she is improving every day, though she will be remaining on antibiotics and anti-fungals for her skin for some time. Clairesse is a 3 year old Purebred Maltese, just darling!
Clairesse has been ADOPTED!!!!
Regis
t

Amongst 800 other dogs, "Regis" didn't look like much of a Schnauzer. He actually resembled a mop more than any type of dog but a haircut and bath later, you wouldn't know how sorry he had looked just a bit before! About 5 years old, this boy has been treated poorly, and does not react well to feeling threatened. But with the right home, he could florish, as he is a great boy, very healthy, and very, very smart! Regis is about 22 lbs (and a bit overweight!) and good with other dogs, but no Kids please!
Regis has been ADOPTED!!!! Thanks to Schnauzer Rescue for helping him to find his forever home. He is now living in San Jose, CA!

Gretchen
g

Don't let her looks fool you- 'Gretchen" might not be a spring chicken, but don't dare count her out! About 10 years old, poor care for most of her life has left her mostly toothless, but not without lots of spunk and love left to give and recieve! She is terribly underweight right now, but otherwise in great health, and is looking for a home that wants to make sure the rest of her life is a whole lot better than the first half has been! Gretchen is about 16 lbs, and is well behaved, great with other dogs and is a definate couch-hog!

Gretchen has been ADOPTED!!!! She is now living in Ojai, CA!
Freddie
f

Simply being in the prime of his life(he's only 7!) left Freddie waiting at a high kill shelter for over 8 months! Being a staff favorite kept him alive, but it didnt' find him a home, or even get him out of the tiny cage he spent the entire time in. It didn't take half a second to decide we would be taking Freddie- and he promptly fell asleep and slept contentedley on the lap of our voulenteer during the hour ride back from the shelter! He's so thrilled to be out, and we're so thrilled to have him- Freddie has an incredible personality, so t ypical of a Pom- he's inqusitive, adorable, affectionate and so, so cute! He's housetrained, just had a dental, and ready to find the wonderful home that will make up for the terrible time he's had in the past.
Freddie has been ADOPTED!!!!  He is now living in Ontario, CA!

In Loving Memory

df
"Laddie"
April 19th, 1987 - Febuary 1st, 2002
You were my best friend and my first love.  You taught me the joy of unconditional love and saw more of the world in your short life than most people see in a lifetime. Without you, there would be happy endings for so many others, and I would not be who I am today. Be free of pain and worries at the Rainbow Bridge, and wait for me, because I will come to join you one day. We love and miss you Laddie, and I will love and miss you forever. - Love Mina, Nur, Jack, Kenan, Millie, Mabel, Mac, Leo and Lydia.
