I. hoogiana (Dykes, 1916) A strong tetraploid species, with open growth habits that make it relatively rot-resistant. The flowers are variable in color, clear selfs ranging from pure white through various shades of blue to a deep blue-violet. All have a notable sheen, but no signal. Many distinct variants have been noted and some selected clones have been registered.

Hoogianabreds are among the bluest of the arilbreds, a group in which blue remains quite elusive. Relatively few have been introduced, however, because they do not have the exotic patterns most people prefer in arilbreds.
