The Beverett family settled in North Carolina in the 1740's. The founder of the family was reportedly a ship's captain according to family legend. He disappeared at sea, leaving at least one son, Benjamin Beverett Jr. who married Barbara Gaster. After Benjamin's death, his widow married Joseph Carr. Benjamin and Barbara's four sons and their families eventually settled in Dale County in southeast Alabama.
Although there are many hundreds of descendants of this family today, most of these are through female descendants and the family name itself has almost died out.
