Biography

Maria BEATRIZ Rosário de ALCÂNTARA was born in Fortaleza - CE and lived in Portugal - Lisbon and Beira-Serra - until she was 19. She has double nationality, being both Brazilian and Portuguese. She majored in Letters by Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC) and has a Master's Degree in Literature by Universidade de Brasília (UNB). She is Assistant Professor of French Language and Literature at Universidade Estadual do Ceará (UECE). Married, mother of two children, Daniela (architect) and Leonardo (attorney).

Member of the Academy of Letters of Ceará (chair nº 16). Member of the Academy of Letters and Sciences of São Lourenço (chair nº 70). Former directress of the José de Alencar Theater in Fortaleza. Published all seven issues of the literature magazine Revista Seara de Literatura and general coordinator of the four first issues of ESPIRAL: Revista de Literatura. Collaborator of literature magazines in Brazil, Portugal and Argentina and has taken part of many Brazilian anthologies. She wrote a weekly page about literature in O Povo newspaper, called "Companhia do Escritor" ("Writer's Companion), from 1990 to1991.
