BOOK

Biography

Joaquina Fernandes de Oliveira - KINA DE OLIVEIRA - is a journalist, psychologist and writer. She was born in Pereiras, in the countryside of the State of São Paulo, Brazil, on October, 12, 1915. At 13, she won the first prize on a literary contest of O Estado de São Paulo, having her picture and her biography published on the front page of that newspaper under the title "Hopes of Brazil". She married when she was 19, but became a widow at the age of 27, and having little money, she struggled to take care and raise two children all by herself, a boy of six and a one-year-old baby. To accomplish this task, she worked on the administration of several libraries in the country in São Paulo, having the opportunity to approach her biggest passion: the books. When her children were already grown-ups and became independent, she started studying again. Finally, she majored in Communications and later in Psychology. She worked as a federal officer and a teacher, being responsible for the Psychology chair in the Karnig Bazarian Foundation of Itapetininga, in São Paulo, for five years. Before the accruing of the clinical work, after some time, she dedicated herself to her practice as therapist only. Therefore, she could use her time freely to take part of courses and seminars in Brazil, United States of America, Europe and in the East and restarting her literary activity. She became a member of the International Transactional Analysis Association, Inc., Oakland, California, USA, with updating in Active Techniques - ITAA - Courses A.T. 101, 102, 103, ABAT, SP. She ministers intensive courses in personal development: How to become a Winner, Road to Autonomy and Knowledge of Yourself. She specialized in Neurolinguistics and also in Therapy of Married Couples. She completed the course Herramienta del Espiritu (Tools of the Spirit) in Madrid, Spain and took part of Spiritual Experience (Nirvandva) in Tibet. She is an effective member of the Institute of Psychorientology, in Laredo, Texas, USA. She was chosen as president of AJEB (Brazilian Women Journalist and Writers' Association) in 1999 and was reelected in 2000, holding the same position at present.
