MARGARIDA REIMÃO

BOOK

Biography

One thing you cannot be sure of is tomorrow. Otherwise living will be an unchallenged succession of days and nights. We are wandering butterflies that need to invent our own ventures and conquer the seeds of future dreams.

Born in Bahia and living in the State of Espírito Santo since 1995, Margarida Reimão started to follow a road throughout the world of letters when she was seven, at the second grade at school. Her teacher asked the class to write a composition about the rain. She made a story where the character talked with the rain and asked it to water the fields but not to wet her old umbrella, whose dotted cloth let the raindrops leak through them.

When the teacher returned the compositions in class, in the rigid nun school where she studied (Our Holy Mother of Soledade, Salvador - Bahia), she shivered while she waited for her composition to be handed back. Then she heard the teacher say out her name: "Margarida Reimão, I cannot grant you 20, but you got the highest 10 possible" and showed her 10 grade marked in red ink covering all the width on the sheet of paper.

That meant the biggest incentive to her and maybe because of that, she never quit writing. She published her first book, gathering prose and poems written during her youth - "Barco à Deriva" ("Boat Adrift") - and released it in 1982, through the Writers' Federation of Bahia - FEBAE. "That was the encounter with my 'depression', my loneliness and my joys", says Margarida Reimão and since then, she has written eleven books:

"O ESPELHO DE AGNES" ("Agnes' Mirror") - novel (critical realism). "About women's universe and the venture in ways to fulfill their longings and wishes as great events" (The Editors - Contemp, 1995).
"VICTÓRIA" ("Victoria") - novel (critical realism). "A heated story about love and life, whose characters regain the flowing sense of passion and search for freedom, in a daily context which determines a whole period" (The Editors - Galden's/Contemp, 1993).
"A OUTRA FACE DA FACE" ("The Face's other Face") - prose and poems. "It is amongst the greatest values in Brazilian literature, for its extremely contemporary technique, style and content. Her themes cover a great range - from love to freedom"(The Editors - Galden's/Contemp, 1992).
"CARTAS A UM DESCONHECIDO" ("Letters to an Unknown Person") - prose and poems. "My letters are prose texts, others are free verse, full of hope, longing, distance, wholesomeness, undetermined, broken... but certainly they are directly addressed to people's hearts and minds" (Contemp, 1987).
"O CONTO QUE EU NÃO CONTEI" ("The Story I Haven't Told") - short stories - "Persistent and irreverent characters, a pile of delusions, a speck of confusion and delightful surprises... are the ingredients Margarida Reimão has included in her new book" (Contemp Editora, 1984).
"CANTO AO VENTO" ("Song to the Wind") - poems. A record of the most primary and ethereal feelings - a condensation of being and feeling (FEBAE, 1983).
"EGO LUZ" ("Ego Light") - collective book with several writers from Bahia (FEBAE, 1983).
"25 ANOS DEPOIS" ("25 Years After") - novel - unreleased. Love story about two teenagers that meet again, by chance, 25 years later.
"CEM CRÔNICAS" ("A Hundred Chronicles") - Collection of chronicles.
"A PONTE DA PASSAGEM" ("The Passage Bridge") - a true story - in progress. Fighting and conquering cancer. To help and give hope saying it is possible to conquer the disease - you just have to cross the bridge.

Margarida Reimão has contributed with several newspapers. She created literary bulletins and has worked towards Literature. She's a Member of the Sociedad de Escritores y Artistas de Bolívia (Writers and Artists Society of Bolivia) since 1989; a Member of the Consulting Council of the Writers' Federation of Bahia/ FEBAE since 1984 and a Member of Galden's/CONTEMP.

She was a juror in the Contest of Lagoa do Abaeté in Salvador, Bahia in 1983, 1986 and 1991 and in several literary contests that have taken place in Salvador between 1982 and 1994.

She has got a degree in Business Administration and Literature in French and also studied Natural History, Executive Secretariat and Ancient History, having a Doctor's Degree about the Profile of Greek Society at University of Brasilia.

"Esoteric, critic, perfectionist, I turn around my own axis, like innumerable of my characters, starting over at every dawn, extracting from myself all essence, always open to new things.

The movements of life are almost imperceptible - if we don't pay close attention, all will stay tied to the spool of time."
