Lucia Leao has a bachelor's degree in English from Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She has a master's degree in Brazilian literature from UERJ and a master's degree in print journalism from University of Miami. She works as a translator.

Prizes:
· Won second place in the Annual Contest of the National Writers Association - with the short story "Looking good" - 2002;
· Won third place in the I Online Literary Contest of Brazilian writers living
abroad (Concurso Prosa e Verso da Flórida) with the short story "Passageira" - 2002;
· Honorable mention in the II Literary Contest Brito Roca (Brazil) with the short story "Da sacada " - 2002;
· Won third place in the X National Short Story Contest - Ignácio de Loyola Brandão Award, Araraquara, São Paulo, Brazil, with the short story "Da sacada"- 2003.
