Biography

Eliane Maria Arruda Silva was born in Fortaleza, Ceará, and is the daughter of Antônio Correia Arruda and Geralda Castelo Branco Arruda.

She graduated in Junior High and in High School at the Immaculate Conception School and majored in Letters and in post-graduation in Linguistic in the Federal University of Ceará.

She married dentist Jonas José da Silva, with whom she had two sons: Haroldo e Carlos Magno.

She taught in several schools in Fortaleza, including state public schools, from where she has retired and at present works as a teacher at the Brazilian Marine Force.

She is a member of the Feminine Branch of Juvenal Galeno House, Chair no 40; the Academy of Municipal Letters of the State of Ceará - ALMECE, Chair no 64; the Academy of Literary Studies and Research of the Federal District, no 14 and the Brazilian Women Journalists and Writers Association - AJEB.

She has published her work in several newspapers in Fortaleza: O Povo, Diário do Nordeste and O Estado; Jangada, Brasília and Acadêmica magazines; in the Imprensa Literária (Literary Press) of Rio de Janeiro; in the informing bulletins Academus, Ajebiano and Café Literário of Fortaleza.

Her works have already been chosen at many national short story and poetry contests and at three international short story contests, getting the 2nd prize at the Poetry Contest promoted by Abic, in Santo André - SP; the 3rd prize at the Short Story Contest promoted by Studio A - Fotolito - Santo André - SP; two bronze medals at contests promoted by Brasilia Magazine and some honorary distinctions, special marks and publishing awards.

She works as a reviser for Jangada (Raft) magazine and for the informing bulletin Academus. As she is a Portuguese teacher, she also revises books by other authors during her free time.

At present, she works as a secretary to the Academy of Municipal Letters and the Brazilian Women Journalists and Writers Association - Coordination of Ceará.
