Get a Grip

When it was time to actually sign the Sony contract, our manager dealt us another shock. He had insisted we put all of our advance money from the new deal into escrow, in case things didn't work out. We'd agreed to this, because we were also worried about the pressure that this big a deal can bring and wanted some kind of fail-safe. But at the actual signing at the Sony offices, we're down to the wire, with all the top brass waiting for us outside, and Tim takes us aside and insists that he get all his commission on the money up front. What could we do? We thought we were all in this together, but we walked out of the Sony signing owing $1.2 million. We were the ones who felt like we'd been sold a bill of goods. - Walk This Way, page 470.
