Simple Deal

by M.L. Morgan 11-4-1999

Well, race fans, it used to be a momentous occasion when crew members fled a sinking ship. I guess the rules have changed.

Jeff Gordon, the driver who many fans have chosen to hate just because he is so good is experiencing some internal problems. His crew members have taken new jobs. 5 of them took new jobs with the #88 team, owned by Robert Yates. Life in the big city.

Ray Evernham left the team because Rick Hendrick lied to him. I don't blame Evernham a bit. When someone pisses on my head and tells me it's raining I get a little suspicious. I might get leukemia if it keeps me from going to jail. Then I'll get a miraculous cure. But I'll never say it with a straight face.

Rick Hendrick is not a role model I want my grandchildren to emulate. He is a successful car dealer who was convicted of Federal crimes related to allocation of cars and was subsequently "punished" by spending a year under "house-arrest". His fine was insignificant. He didn't miss a beat. At least O.J. had to spend some time in jail before that incompetent jury of his "peers" turned him loose after he committed double homicide. Functionally illiterate people should not be eligible for jury duty. A functionally illiterate judge made an obscene decision in Rick Hendrick's case and slapped him on the pee-pee instead of putting him in the penitentiary. Both O.J.'s jurors and Hendrick's judge should be doing time. Both instances rival even Nascar's absurd enforcement of rules.

I've heard some of the media puppies talk about the changing of the guard. Nothing is changing. That is total crunchies. Maybe that makes readers go to pages like SpeedWorld. Dale Jarrett has earned his place. He has had a tremendous season. Very consistent. I think he drives a Ford - o.k. with me. We don't do controversial stuff at Race Views.

I rarely speak out of character. So I won't now.
