A 3rd Music Festival for Mill Hill

The 3rd Mill Hill Music Festival will be held in the first week of June this year showcasing a wide variety of musical talent in a host of local venues. Following on from the success of the first two Music Festivals the 1999 Festival promises something for everyone - from rock to Mozart and jazz to Gilbert & Sullivan.

"The programme for ’99 is wider and more exciting than ever" said Marion Dewing, one of the organisers "There will be some favourites from previous years as well as some very exciting Festival debutantes!". The Festival will again be offering the chance to hear top professional musicians at modest prices as well as offering a platform to the cream of local amateur talent.

One of the highlights promises to be the appearance of leading American jazz saxophonist Harry Allen, taking in Mill Hill as part of his UK tour. Brian Peerless, who arranged the gig, is delighted to have secured Harry’s services for the Festival. "He is a major up and coming talent in the jazz world and it is really quite a côup to get Mill Hill into his tour schedule".

The Festival has added an extra day for 1999 and this year will open on Saturday 5th June with a concert at John Keble Church that will include a performance of Fauré’s requiem by the United Church Choirs of Mill Hill. The Festival is also part of the Barnet Arts Festival.

The Times is supporting the Mill Hill Music Festival again and will be featuring articles and information about the event in the weeks preceding it. Programme details and booking information will be available from mid-April onwards in local shops and libraries.
