Cute little corporate Headquarters, huh? Or as my husband Ken would say, Qute with a capital Q. That's what he says about me too! Anyway, now that you've discovered the ole HQ, you can go inside and meet...

And while you're in there, you can Ask a Question and get your answer at...

Or you can take a Picnic Basket full of my published articles on nutrition...

and lie down in a green meadow on...

Or you can go to one of the pages on this site that are a bit more personal but which you are invited to visit.

This workbook authored by
Virtual Faculty member
Charlie Smigelski, RD,
contains nutrition advice and food
ideas for people living with HIV or AIDS.

So here's what I've got in mind here. In 1982, I was lying in a hospital bed in ICU wondering in a kind of semi-conscious, sublimal way what my life should be about when I heard...in some sort of weird inaudible way...I heard GOD (or whatever you want to call that VOICE inside you that when you hear it, you know you're supposed to pay attention)...I heard IT say, "Feed My People". (Yes, it was almost like hearing it in COLOR!)

Now, I didn't know that VOICE very well then (except for flashbacks from the 60's), but I did pay attention. Only I didn't much take to the idea of cooking for six billion mouths (you can't always take that VOICE too literally). So I decided to get a degree in nutrition instead and see if I could find a way to show people how important nutrition is to their health. About that same time, HIV/AIDS was becoming the topic of the decade. Was there a way that nutrition could help people suffering from this horrible affliction? And in what ways could nutrition help others with life-threatening or life-debilitating illnesses? And how could it also help the rest of us?

It turned out that speaking and writing about what I found out on the subject was the best way for me to "feed my people." I did a lot of that (especially about HIV/AIDS), suggesting ways in which nutrition could help (and in some non-life-threatening situations, dare we say "cure"?) what ails ya'. So this section of the website, this Nutrition Power Headquarters, is designed to make available to you what I learned and what others are continuing to learn about how nutrition can help the HIV Positive person. To that end, you'll find the archives of many of my articles and monographs under Jennifer's Picnic Basket. Though some things change in medical science as we find out more and more, most of the info in these articles is still good and up-to-date. And, even if I do say so myself, quite entertaining!

Now from time to time, you readers may have questions about some particular disease state and how nutrition can be beneficial. I always was eager to answer such questions when I was on that so-called earthly plane. Now, I have to rely on a little help from my friends. If you check out the Virtual Faculty, you'll find the names and brief bios of some of my friends and colleagues who are expert in their fields and who have volunteered to answer your questions. I hasten to add, these are busy people, so please keep your questions brief and to the point. You should not look upon this Q & A feature as a substitute for a nutritional consultation. And then there is also my Crazy Quilt of Links to other websites that I and the Faculty members have found useful in getting more information related to HIV/AIDS, cancer (which was my other specialty), nutrition, "meals on wheels" type programs, and other points of interest.

My hope, then, for this Nutrition Power Headquarters is to create a sort of nutritional network where readers can find information to help themselves and their loved ones, and also to find professional people and organizations who can help them help themselves. The idea here is to empower YOU. That's why I call it Nutrition Power Headquarters. The power lies in knowledge and the headquarters are here. One of 'em, anyway. So browse around, learn something, and have fun!
