Bendix Alumina Kevlar Disc Brake Pads.

Luckily I found out about the riveted pads before they started wearing away at the discs. A friend found out the hard way and had to replace pads and discs.... and the Jeep dealer put the OE discs on as replacements and.... you guessed it ..... he was caught again (He tows heavy caravans and trailers!).

I took my Jeep to the local Tyrepower Store and asked them to fit Bendix Alumina Kevlar Matrix compound disc brake pads. No rivets and still plenty of feel when braking.... in fact they "feel" better than the standard pads and the braking also appears to be better. The makers claim that they are fade resistant (haven't came near to getting them to fade yet!), and longer wearing (the first pads lasted 72,000 klms).... I'll let you know how these go! So far so good! The brake pads are well and truly bedded in now and the braking is substantially improved over OE pads and there are no longer worries about rivets hitting the discs!!

Performance? A little noisier at first... almost felt like the pads were sticking to the discs in the first few kilometres. Once bedded in they became quieter, operating much as normal brake pads do EXCEPT they stop the Jeep! Very impressed with their performance and they are wearing well.

Cost?Disc pads, fitting, change brake fluid and test drive.... $150.00 (The rear brakes did not need changing.) Or fit them yourself..... not a difficult task and the Disc Brake Pads Online Shop can supply them at the right price through their secure online ordering. Delivery in Australia in 2-3 days. Just let them know I sent you!

Fuel Consumption

Around the city the Jeep gets between 15-18 mpg (depends on traffic!). Most of my city driving is short trips with lots of stop start motoring! On a country run it is consistently getting 26 mpg traveling at the highway speed limits of 100-110 klms/hr. The worst consumption recorded was 9 mpg in very soft dry sand.

Need those figures in litres per 100 klms? City driving 15 to 18 litres/100 klms. Country driving 10.8 litres/100 klms. Sand driving (you could here the engine sucking petrol!!!) 31 .1 litres/100 klms

Ben sent in the following fuel consumption figures. Seems mine aren't too bad after all! (Although these figures are for the grand cherokee, which is just a little heavier. I'd say your fuel mileage isn't too bad. Our Grand Cherokee gets about 14-15 miles per gallon in town, about 19 mpg on the highway, and 13-17 mpg with a boat and trailer in tow that weigh approximately 3600 pounds.

Back to main page Please send email with your consumption figures. I'd like to find out how I can improve mine (other than easing up on the accelerator pedal!!! Put fuel consumption in the subject heading
