VISITING MY DAUGHTER
by Janelle DuBois

You're the girl I loved
You're my solitude
You're the quiet surrounding my solitude

You're the cold marble and the green grass
and the comforting canopy on wheels

And most of all you're the carefree,
brazenly yellow earth-moving machine,
driverless, immobile, temporarily serene
in the Sunday afternoon rain

It's too wet for me to be here,
too wet to visit you

You're the girl I loved
You're my solitude
