While you are in the Yellowstone area, you should consider visiting Grand Teton National Park. Grand Teton N.P. is located just south of Yellowstone and your entrance fee to Yellowstone is also valid for Grand Teton.

The Teton's are a beautiful mountain range. While Yellowstone's scenery is intimate and on a somewhat human scale, Grand Teton's scenery is majestic and on a grand scale.

A common question is: "Are the Teton's worth seeing?" The answer to this question depends on your appetite for mountains and what you plan to do once you get there. If you are used to mountains or you have recently been to Banff or Jasper National Parks in Canada or Waterton- Glacier International Peace Park in Alberta and Montana then your jaded eyes might find the Tetons uninspiring. If you really enjoy mountain scenery or plan to do some hiking, then by all means go to the Tetons.

The roads in the park are limited to Jackson Hole. (Jackson Hole is the name of the valley at the foot of the Tetons, Jackson is the name of the town at the southern end of Jackson Hole). There are many view points along this road but after a while they get repetitive. You need to get out and do a little walking either on the valley floor or into the mountains to appreciate the scenery. The must-see drive is the one way scenic road past Jenny Lake. Stop along this road and walk down to the lake for some impressive scenery.

To really appreciate the Tetons, you need to hike into them. One popular hike is to Hidden Falls and Inspiration point and then up Cascade canyon. It is easiest to start this hike by taking the boat across Jenny lake to the trailhead. The worst part of the hike is up to Inspiration point and just beyond. After that the crowds thin, a little, and the trail flattens out some. You can hike up the canyon as far as you want. the further up you go the more impressive the views become.

One last must-see located in Grand Teton N.P. is the Indian Arts Museum at the Colter Bay Visitor Center. The museum contains a world class Indian artifacts exhibit.

The wildlife viewing opportunities in Grand Teton are very good. In fact, the opportunities to see antelope and moose are better in Grand Teton than they are in Yellowstone.
