Web Break Systems
We have used PLC's to create Web Break Systems for Printing Presses. The package consists of the PLC, the Operator Interface and the controls (Push Buttons and Selector Switches). Some of our customers have utilized existing text displays, indicator lights, or OITs to monitor and warn when a web break occurs.
The cheapest but well working system (see photo) was done for a local outfit (though the last we heard of, the press made it to Utah and we had to phone support the new owners) and they decided to utilize their existing, old PLC a TI305 and also indicators lights since it was the cheapest way to warn them when a web break occured.
Besides the web break setup, they added two units to the press
so those had to become part of the system.
It took about 1 week to get the parts and put together the indicator light face
panel (temporary panel shown in photo, the final version was done in anodized
aluminum plate with Laser engraving by Legend Engraving, a local outfit in Elk
Grove Village, IL) and we worked on the program while waiting for the parts to
arrive. The installation took us 2 days and by the 3rd day they were up and
running and testing the Web Break System.
