M300 units using Flex I/O and Device Net

In the following photos you can see the Flex I/O setup. All the units were retrofitted with Flex I/O racks.
The main controller an SLC500 (5/03) was installed in the operators console.
We are using a 1747-SN (Device Net Scanner) to control the Device Net and all the data exchange.
By doing so, we were able to eliminate a huge portion of the labor cost of the entire installation and also
the time of the installation. (Aproximately  2.5 weeks of installation time).

In addition to those savings we were able to also eliminate several wires from the main controller running to
and from each unit. The power supply for our network is installed inside the main console. Also, we have added
a Device net port inside the console for easy access of the network.

A fairly easy  and straight forward setup allows the user to make changes at any time without having to utilize additional hardware or hard wired changes.

The software is available from your local Allen Bradley distributor. Also, the necessary hardware and cables are available through the same distributor. And Allen Bradley offers seminars on the Device Net networks very often.

Please, visit the Allen Bradley web site to learn more about the benefits of the Device Net network and Flex I/O.
