Ode to Tasselhoff

A freeform by Aly

December 8, 2000
This poem is in memory of my rabbit. Pet owners will understand...

Tasselhoff we named you
for you were so curious
as curious as a kender
when found in the pet shop.

We could not resist taking you home
you became part of our lives
us newly married, you but a baby bunny
so cute, so affectionate.

You adopted us as your own
circling us, happy
chinning our fingers
our glasses, claiming us.

Treats and food made you jump with joy
so simple to make you happy
with joy you ran off with an envelope
when bills were being paid
it just had to be played with, to be tasted.

Humming, you made figure eights
the drapes in your small mouth
anything could be a toy
even if it was part of the house.

Then it became just you and I
my bunny and me, you were there through it all
letting me pet you, kiss your small keppy
how much I loved you, you were part of my family

You have been so patient
despite the reduced out hours
due to my working 3 jobs to keep
a roof over our heads.

So happy to see me, you greeted me when
I came home, and you saw me off to work
your soft white underbelly showing
as you stood up to be taller.

Tasselhoff Burfoot, is what we named you
but "Binky" is what you became
"The Bunny" or just "Bunny"
you, the quintessential bunny
had the cutest bunny face.

You were a part of my life
for nearly 9 years
a part of my family
just as much as any dog.

Dad says that loving means loosing
but all loss is hard
I wish I did not have loose you
I miss you....
