This is my R/C hovercraft. It is a rebuild of an earlier craft and was done one night when I was bored. The hull is made of multible pieces of packing foam glued together with elmer's school glue and sealed with calk. The craft is 15in. by 31in. and an inch thick. The skirt was designed for 2in. hover but I get 1 3/4in. I know what I did wrong with the skirt so the next one will be better. A Quicktime movie is at the bottom of the page for you to download. If you have any questions email me.
This is my radio made by JR PROPO. It has three channels. The upper dial on the handle controls the lift so I just set it and forget it until the end of the run.
The blue thing in the middle is the lid to a ziplock container used to protect the reciever and ESCs. The batteries are held in place by two rubber bands.
Here you can see the prop, motor mount, prop cage, rudder, and servo connections.
The motor mount was made using thin wall brass tubing that was flattened with a hammer so I has a 90 degree turn in the mount.
The rudder and servo horn is just 1/4in. ply cut and glued with a bolt to piviot on. The conection rod is a hanger cut and bent.
The motor is a Traxxas Stinger 20 turn. Alot faster than the lift.
The lift mount was done the same way as the trust. The duct is made of the same foam as the hull. To get the closest tip clearence I cut small and used a file and many fittings to get it right.
The motor is a Trinity Paradox stock motor(27 turn). The prop is the same as the trust and is 5 1/2in. diameter of unknown pitch. Both seam to work fine.
This is the previous mentioned ziplock container.
On the left is the Novak Rooster for thrust.
In the middle is the three channel PCM reciever to handle all the functions.
On the right is the Novak Duster 2.
I could conect brake lights to the ESCs but I think it just might be a waste.
This is the pattern used to make the skirt corners. If the stait angled part had had a slight curve the other way of the first one I would have gotten full hover hight. I did the pattern on my own with a few simple calculations.
