This was the band’s first concert of 1972 and the first in exactly two months. The first half of the show was to consist of what Waters called their ‘masterwork,’ a long song cycle that would become The Dark Side of the Moon, but equipment troubles force them to abandon it at the beginning of ‘Money.’ The numbers that they did manage to perform sound very different from the finished product, with an instrumental piece as the second song (ultimately replaced by ‘On the Run’), a slow jam similar to ‘Breathe’ and ‘Any Colour You Like’ at the end of the ‘Time’ (Gilmour can be heard singing along with his guitar solo, one of his trademarks), and a haunting Wright keyboard piece that he eventually transformed into ‘The Great Gig in the Sky.’ After the equipment problems, the band finishes the show with some of their familiar live numbers, including great versions of ‘One of These Days’ and ‘Echoes.’ This crucial recording is obviously worth having for its importance - the development of their first monumental album can be traced to this first show.
