Hello from the Zimmerman's:

(Bubba and Salem too!)

This is where you'll find updates as we go through the journey of building our new home.  Check back often!

BIG NEWS AS IT'S HAPPENING!

06/14/06 -
The upstairs is completely done and the basement is about a quater of the way there.  The deadline is tomorrow and I think we've met all the bank's requirements.  New pictures have been added but are now hosted on our family site (http://family.heirloomsbyelisha.com)

05/02/06 - The flooring is almost done.  Just a little bit left in the kitchen (under the dishwasher and stove) and half of the laundry room are left to do.  We weren't able to lay the carpet this weekend and the contractors still have about a day's work left to do w/ the landscaping/dirt.  Our appliances were delivered yesterday.  Click on pictures to see some of our new pond and progress on the driveway.  Pictures of the couch and love seat have been added to the Decor page as well.

04/27/06 - Things are really beginning to come together now!  Almost the entire house is painted (all but the main bathroom walls), and we've started installing the flooring for the dining room, kitchen, hall and laundry room.  I believe the plan is to lay carpet this weekend.  The contractors should finish up moving dirt around outside today.  New pictures have been added.

04/13/06 - Pictures of the duct work have been added.  Also, pictures of the septic lines that were finished up yesterday.  We can go potty in the new house now.  YAY!
(It's the little things in life!)

04/11/06 - The drywall is all finished and we are just waiting on Rick to come and do the texture on the ceiling where the two halves of the house came together.  After that we can paint and put the flooring down and the upstairs will be all but done.  Scott also got half of the duct work put in yesterday for the upstairs heat (pictures of that coming soon).  We did some shopping this weekend and picked up a new entertainment stand
(we're certain my 10+ year old K-Mart one will disintegrate if we try to take it apart and move it one more time) and a "chesser" (tall dresser).  They are scratch-and-dent pieces so we got them at a great price.  Click on decor if you would like to see pictures of them.

03/31/06 - We have heat!  We've been heating the downstairs for about a week now and all is working fine.  We still need duct work for the upstairs by the heat from the basement makes everything bareable right now.  Scott and Dennis have been working on the drywall upstairs the past couple of weeks.  It's coming along nicely.  The last couple of days they spent in the fields sewing oats and will hopefully get a whole lot more done in the house before its time to plant the corn.  The bank deadline to have the upstairs "livable" is May 1st.

02/24/06 - Scott and Dennis have made a lot of progress in the basement lately.  They have all the wall partitians up and are getting ready to install the duct work and heating system.  Also, the well drilling guys have the wells all closed up.

01/17/06 - Obviously from my lack of updates, we haven't done much to the house in the last two months.  We did get the 6 wells drilled for the geothermal heat pump as well as the electric pole set, some wiring done, and a lot of the plumbing purchased.  Pictures of the well drilling have been uploaded.

11/17/05 - Scott and Dad have been working hard as time allows.  The house is weather tight now, so we're able to work inside.  Dad and Mom Z. are leaving for Florida on Friday so Scott's trying to get all the help he can before they leave.  New pictures of some work have been uploaded.

10/31/05 - This weekend we got most of the garage roof on despite the fact that Scott ended up in the ER again last Wednesday after cutting his thumb (and tendon) on a steel door.  Click pictures to see (the house, not his thumb).

10/26/05 - I added a couple more "snow" pictures.

10/25/05 - We woke up to 3" of snow this morning, down trees, power outages and closed sch
ools.  (Click Pictures to see)
Gotta love PA!  At least the shingles are done.  Let's hope Dad Z's right and the 3 floor jacks in the basement are enough to hold the house and all the snow.

10/17/05 - Friday & Satruday we worked on siding and shingles.  Pictures from Satruday have been added.  Also, Scott and I went yesterday and bought our fridge, washer, dryer and microwave since Whirlpool and Lowes had specials going on.  We saved $485 total!  Not bad.

10/07/05 - The house was set on the 5th.  Click "Pictures" to see.

10/04/05 - Pictures have been uploaded.

10/03/05  - WE HAVE A HOUSE!!!!  It was delivered today.  Scott's been inside and checked it all out and we only have 2 cracks in the drywall (likely from when the trailers bottomed out on the way up the hill).  We knew to expect cracks but to only have 2 isn't bad.  The trucks got stuck on the way up the hill and he had to pull them the rest of the way up with Lowell Friedline's dozer.  I bet that was a site!  He said he got pictures of them coming down the road and everything (minus when he actually had to pull them up...obviously).  I added some pictures on the 28th and will add the ones Scott took today tomorrow morning (hopefully).  They'll be setting the house on the foundation either Wednesday or Thursday and I'll be taking the day off that day so I don't miss it.

9/20/05 - The tubing for the radiant heating was all but finished up yes
terday (click "Pictures" to see) and Scott is hoping to have a cement truck come Wednesday to pour the floor.  We are less than 2 weeks away from the delivery date for the house (10/03/05).

8/17/05 - Still laying blocks.  The final draft of the floor plan has been sent to the builder, but we're still waiting on a quote for floor trusses.  We now know the Lowes employees on a first name basis.

7/29/05 - The guys have been busy at work (as time, weather, and barley allows) laying block, drains, gravel and dirt.  There are some new pictures for your browsing pleasure.

7/19/05 - The contractors showed up earlier than expected so they did the walls before Scott got the drains and gravel
done.  Click on "Pictures" to see.  Additionally, the blocks to finish the foundation walls were delivered this morning so Scott, his dad and Roy have a lot of work ahead of them.

7/7/05 - The contractors formed up and poured the footer yeste
rday.  Click on "Pictures" to see.  Scott and his dad will be working on putting the drains in and the gravel that goes under the basement floor over the next several days.  The contractors will come back mid to late next week to form and pour the foundation walls.

7/6/05 - The contractors came yesterday and dug the footer for the foundation, and if all works out today they will be building the forms to pour the footer.  Progress, progress, progress.  I love it!

6/17/05 - Happy 5th Anniversary to us!!!  Larry got back to us today w/ the quote.  $20,417 to do the walls and floor in the basement & garage, plus the two windows & pass doors for the basement & the bulk head for the garage doors.  We'll need to come up w/ an additional $1,000 for the water barrier, but we're still about $1,000 under our original estimate for the foundation.  Still not sure when he can start & we haven't given him the ok just yet.  We want to think it over this weekend.  Plus, we need to arrange for the piping in the floor w/ REA before we pour the concrete & a few other things, but we're on the right track now Buddy!  =O)

6/1
6/05 - We think we have finally found someone to do our foundation.  It'll be the 3rd contractor we've talked to.  He came by and took a look at stuff on Tuesday and said he could get started just as soon as we approve his quote.  We are still waiting on his quote though.  If this doesn't fall through like all the others we might actually build a house this summer.  (I'm trying not to get my hopes up)

4/14/05 - Some of the dirt that was already dug out of the foundatioin (a.k.a. "the hole") fell in so Scott worked on cleaning it up last night until the highlift decided to dump all it's oil on the ground.  (Guess that'll teach Dad Z. to make sure the plug's in tight!)    We also have all the paperwork ready to make our first withdrawl, but we're going to wait until we absolutely have to before getting it.  We don't want to start paying the interest on it before we have to.

4/11/05 - Scott stopped and talked to Donnie Lynch about the foundation last night.  He will be out either today or tomorrow to mark everything off and we will start the foundation late this week or early next.  YAY!!!!!

2/8/05 - We closed on the house on 1/27/05 and then went to REA to discuss heating and cooling options for the house.  Looks like we might d
o a geothermal heat pump.  Everything else is still on hold until the weather breaks.

1/25/05 - Scott and I went yesterday and signed the lean agreements for the contractors and we will CLOSE on the house this Thursday, 1/27/05.  This means all the paperwork and financing will be in place and we can start building as soon as the weather breaks!  YAY!!!!!!

1/20/05 - Scott is working with the attorney this week to get the paperwork all in order for closing.

12/20/04 - We received a very nice present the week of Christmas....our mortgage was officially approved!  YAY!
