Review of Edmond Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac

Cyrano de Bergerac is about a man’s quest for love and adventure. Cyrano is in love with Roxanne but can barely get up the nerve to speak to her because of his large, unsightly nose and his overwhelming shyness. He is able to convey his feelings for her only in heartfelt letters. In one of the book’s many twists, Roxanne finds herself torn between two men. One of these men has the looks, and the other has the mind. Eventually, love does overcome the unsightliness of even the biggest of nose.

Review

Cyrano de Bergerac is a fun classic that can be read and enjoyed by all. Cyrano teaches us valuable lessons, while entertaining us all the while. I could easily relate to his bad luck and cheered as he overcame obstacles to triumph in the end. Overall it was a purer form of the famous Cinderella story, involving a physical problem rather than an economic one.
