| Placebo Brian molko was born on 10th december 1972 born to scottish and american parents. Early in brian's life, he was dragged around several different countries by his father, who was an international banker.brian went to a private school in luxembourg and was outsider who hated sport, but loved drama. Brian and stefan were actually at the same school, but they never spoke because stefan was a jock and brian, well brian was brian. He has said himself that stefan was popular and that brian himself was a loser!!! Brian moved to london at the age of 17 to go to goldsmiths to study drama.brian's dad wanted him to follow in his footsteps and become a banker, but brian wanted to be a rock star and wear nail varnish!!! Stefan olsdal was born 31st march 1974 and he is placebo's bass player and used to play the drums for his school orchestra. He prefered being seen in a band instead of being stuck at the back and getting no publicity. "so i got on to bass and played that for a while at the same time as learning piano. The first bass i bought was a fender precision, because of iron maiden's steve harris, but since then i've never really tried to emulate a particular sound or hero. I've always thought more about the creative side" was stated in bassist magazine. Stefan also grew up in luxembourg, but never met brian until they bumped into eachother outside a south kensington tube station when brian was 19. They discovered they had loads in common and formed a band called ashtray heart. Stefan introduced brian to robert schultzberg and he became the drummer in the band that became placebo. They were signed by hut records after only 5 gigs in january 1996!!! Steven hewitt was born march 22nd 1971. Steve played on the placebo demos, but couldn't join the band because he had other commitments. He joined after robert schultzberg left. ' I sat in my bedroom with my practice kit for two weeks and learnt the lp then we had one and a half days rehearsal before touring thirteen countries in four months!' Steve grew up near manchester in northwich. He played for a while with tim burgess from the charlatans, who also lived in northwich.he played in many bands, including the boo radleys for a time. He recorded with them on their debut album. From 1991-94 steve played with a dance band called k-klass and scored 5 top 40 hits!!! For a time steve had to do some forklift truck work because no money was coming in musically and his girlfriend was pregnant. Steve has also been a joiner and an apprentice building racing cars for williams and he also worked in dougie's music store for a while in northwich. He became a drummer because some people at school asked him to play. He taught himself and his first performance was playing a fleetwood mac song in a a school assembly.at seventeen he began to teach others to play. Steve has built on placebo's recorded drum tracks."i listened to the first placebo lp, and i thought robert was technically a good drummer, but in terms of feel and groove it felt like he was fighting it. I’ve just sorted out the tempos really, on the stuff that was done before i joined, and just put more groove, more feel in it. Made it less uptight." |
