The Holy Kaaba at Mecca, Saudi Arabia

Islam : Submission

Islam literally means 'Submission' to the will of Allah subhano tala (God). The Five Pillars of Islam are

*
Shahada: witness that there is no God except Allah and Mohammad (sallala-ho-aleo-wassalum) is His Prophet

*
Salat: prayer

*
Zakat: giving alms to the poor

*
Saum: Fasting during the Holy month of Ramadan

*
Hajj: the pilgrimage to the Holy Kaaba (Mecca).

English translation of Sura
Al-Maidah, verse 3

"...
This day have I prefected your religion for you,  completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion..."

Quran: The Holy Book

Quran  is the Holy Book revealed by Allah on His messenger, Prophet Mohammed sallala-ho-aleo-wassalum as guidance to all mankind. It is the word of the Almighty, which is free from all distortions and has in it a message that is clear. Allah subhano tala has sent it to mankind as mercy, for without it, we would be astray.

English translation of Sura
Al-Fatiha (The Opening)

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Praise be to Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds
Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Master of the Day of Judgement
Thee do we worship, and Thine aid we seek
Show us the straight way,
The way of those on whom Thou hast bestowed Thy Grace, on those whose (portion) is not Warth, and who go not astray.

Hadith: The Way of the Prophet (peace and Allah's blessings be upon him)

Hadith  is the way of Prophet Mohammed (peace and Allah's blessings be upon him). It helps the muslims get clear guidance regarding the day to day matters of life like prayer, food, clothing, conduct etc. By following the sunnah of the Prophet (peace and Allah's blessings be upon him), can we live a peaceful and correct life in this world.

Jihad: The Struggle

Jihad  is the struggle of every muslim during his stay in this duniya (wolrd). The superiority and reward of Jihad are explained best in the folowing sura

English translation of Sura
Al-Baqarah, verse 154

And say not of those who are slain in the way of Allah : "They are dead". Nay, they are living, though ye perceive it not.

Hadith
about the superiority of Jihad

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:
Allah's Messenger, sallala-ho-aleo-wassalum, was asked about the best of deeds. He observed : Belief in Allah. He (the inquirer) asked: What next? He (the Prophet, peace and Allah's blessing be upon him) replied: Jihad (struggle to the utmost) in the cause of Allah. He (the inquirer) again asked: What next?  He (the Prophet, peace and Allah's blessing be upon him) replied: Pilgrimage accepted into the Grace of the Lord.

Jannah: The Eternal Paradise

Jannah is the eternal Paradise. Our stay in this world is compared to the length of one day or atmost the following morn, when compared to the eternal life of the hereafter. This makes it clear the importance of this life is very little when compared to eternity. For those who reflect, it is apparent that our struggle should indeed be focused so as to gain Paradise. On the Day of judgement Allah will allow  us to enter Heaven or Hell according to what we deserve, as a final resting place. Each and every good and bad deed is recorded and will be judged by Him on that day...for Allah knows all that we hide and all that we reveal.

English translation of Sura
Al- Zalzalah, verses 7, 8

[7] Then shall anyone who has done an atom's weight of good, see it!
[8] And anyone who has done an atom's weight of evil, shall see it.

Very clear description of Paradise and Hell appear in a number of Suras in the Quran. Paradise is a Gardern of bliss while Hell will have fire whose fuel is men and stones.

English translation of Sura
As- Sajda , verses 17- 20

[17] Now no person knows what delights of the eye are kept hidden (in reserve) for them, as a reward for their
       (good) Deeds.
[18] Is then the man who believes no better than the man who is rebillious and wicked? Not equal are they.
[19] For those who believe and do righteous deeds, are Gardens as hospitable homes, for their (good) deeds.
[20] As to those who are rebillious and wicked, their abode will be the Fire: every time they wish to get away
therefrom, they will be forced thereinto, and it will be said to them: "Taste ye the Penalty of the Fire, the
which ye were wont to reject as false."
