Un vrai cadeau pré-Noël que l'on devrait
tous s'offrir que cette édition de "Peace in the Valley". Ma
première étoile va à "Softly and Tenderly" cette hymne
originalement joué de façon amusante avec Jerry Lee Lewis. C'est la douceur du
cœur même d'Elvis que l'on y entend.
"I Just Can't Make It By Myself" remporte haut la main la palme de la
deuxième étoile. C'est une voie tracée que l'on soit ou non croyant. Ici le
chant "Gospel" prend tout son sens. Le concept même d'un monde, non
pas meilleur, mais "Ailleurs" duquel on puise la force de surmonter
les difficultés de la vie y est ici exprimé avec l'âme, l'identité profonde
du chanteur.
Cette édition en soit, en même temps que l'album "White Christmas"
pour le premier Noël du nouveau millénaire mérite la troisième étoile.
Noël étant par essence l'Évangile des évangiles, la bonne nouvelle des
bonnes nouvelles. Alors si "Gospel" égal chant évangélique, ici
"Gospel = Christmas".
"Seeing is Believin'" ou voir c'est croire…Le levé du soleil, la
majesté des montagnes, les océans qui grondent jusqu'aux rivages les plus
lointains… Au-delà des monts et des vallées, Elvis voit les pléiades
créées par un être plus grand que vous et moi. C'est la quatrième étoile.
Dans son "You Better Run" Elvis se déchaîne avec le rythme qu'on lui
connaît. Les voix d'accompagnements dans les tons graves et aigus donnent à
l'interprétation une saveur de cinquième étoile incontournable.

Elvis was a walkin', talkin', singin'
combination of indigenous American music and styles, but probably the first
music he heard as a child was gospel--in Southern Baptist churches, on Memphis
radio (where white Southern gospel quartets flourished during the '40s and
'50s), and from black churches. Presley released an EP of gospel music in the
'50s, around the same time he performed "Peace in the Valley" on one
of his Ed Sullivan appearances. This 1960 release, however, represents his first
full-length foray into gospel, and while it's a bit more produced than the EP,
it still features beautiful singing. Staples such as "Joshua Fit the
Battle" and "Swing Down Sweet Chariot" sound like they came
directly from a Memphis service. Of course, for Presley, gospel included
everything from the title track by Stuart Hambler (who ran against Eisenhower on
the Prohibition ticket) to Rodgers & Hammerstein. After all, hybridization
was his magic.

Lorsque je songe à quel point Il s'est
éloigné de la gloire, venu sur terre avec nous... souffrir l'humiliation, à
ma place sur le Calvaire... Alors, je me demande: Qui suis-je pour recevoir un
tel amour? - Ce sont ces paroles dans "Who Am I" qui donnent à cet
album toute sa valeur particulière parce qu'elles sont dites avec la voix du
chant venant du cœur même d'Elvis. Elvis était inspiré par la musique. Tous
les genres et styles apparaissent dans ses chansons. La musique lui apportait la
paix, le réconfort que cherche tout être humain. Il est facile d'imaginer que
la première musique venant du cœur qu'il ait entendu soit un chant
"Gospel" dans une petite église du sud des États Unis. On le sait,
cette musique sert à exprimer la condition humaine d'esclave face à l'abus
raciste ou tout simplement les valeurs douteuses que favorise souvent la
société en général. (Lorsque tu marches seul au travers de l'orage, tiens la
tête levée et ne sois pas effrayé par la nuit. À la fin de l'orage il y a
toujours un ciel d'or et la douce musique d'un oiseau…) Ce sont les premières
paroles de "You'll Never Walk Alone" l'un de ses classiques
"Gospel". Dans son interprétation de "His Hand in Mine"
C'est le partage de sa foi en ces mots : (Vous pouvez me demander comment je
sais que mon Dieu est vrai. Vous pouvez douter de mes états d'âme, mais je
sais qu'Il est vrai aujourd'hui, je puis éprouver sa main dans la mienne et
cela me sufi, c'est tout ce dont j'ai besoin pour savoir…) C'est l'essence
même des chansons "Gospel" et les versions de cet album sont
particulièrement touchantes de douceurs vocales ou Elvis feutre ses notes de
sentiments profonds rejoignant probablement ce qu'il avait éprouvé alors qu'il
était enfant dans une église du sud, découvrant le réconfort des prières
chantées.

Five stars. The first one for that
"Softly and Tenderly" originally performed with Jerry Lee Lewis.
Elvis' inspired voice brings joys and faith to those who listen.
The second star, for "I Just Can't Make It By Myself". Making the goal
clear to everybody.
The third star for "How Great Thou Art" is masterpiece with
"Amazing Grace".
The fourth star goes for the gift of this release that brings the following
equation (Christmas = Gospel).
If "Seeing is Believin'", earring Elvis' heart trough the music of is
soul is finding the way to overcome sadness and tears. Fifth star goes to
"You Better Run" and its rhythmic for it talks about real life, our
society who will find no peace on earth but "Peace in the Valley" with
God children’s.
