It is very common that at the beginning
of a new year the expectations grow of what will happen in the course
of one’s life. For us in Youth with a Mission Medellín, we
also have expectations of what 2002 will bring for us as a mission in this
city. I see a lot of enthusiasm in the people that work here, I see new
people arriving, the life of the children changing. I notice in the girls
much passion to learn handiworks and a spiritual growth which I also noticed
in most of the staff. All seem to be in the expectation that something good
that will happen this new year.

We are projecting ourselves
toward a third stage which will be on a big property. And we have intended
to achieve it in the course of the present year. The objective is to improve
the quality of life for the children of our institution, offering an intensive
occupational and wide therapy, that is to say that the teenager can learn
technical things of the field and at the same time, we can live of the
production; since we are a Non Profit Entity.

We are welcoming
our Swedish friends that have come in this semester to help us, and they
are: The couple Helga and Robert Tornkvizt, Karin Andersson and Helen Ohgren,
also to Marisol Vanegas who is working as secretary, Ruth Dalith Rivas
who will be leading evangelism of families and Mónica Rendón
and Luis Acendra as tutors. |

We began
the work with the children the 7th of January, 18 beautiful faces arrived;
but sad and brokenhearted between the ages of 5 and 13 years;
The kids entered in a local school in first, second, third and fourth grades of the primary school of Santiago Santa María. They are also experiencing the great "Adventures" of the school. Of these 18 children only two don’t go to school and stay in the house for leveling. It has been a great challenge for "Casa Refugio Bethel" in the beginning, because we have now also kids who are among the “High-risk” but who have different background. The problems that these live and for which they are in the institution are: Abandonment, family violence and violent sociocultural context. |

At the
educational level; a spiritual, educational, adaptability and socializing
program, will be developed. For that end we have a fulltime team of two
coordinators, a secretary, seven tutors, two educators and a kitchen administrator.
We also have a parttime support team for this semester; a group of Swedish
youths.
We have many dreams, among them working with the mothers of the children, in evangelism and training through the handicraft workshop. We trust the Lord Jesus for His power, wisdom and grace to be with us and in this way to be able to serve with excellence for the Heavenly Kingdom. |

We started the year 2002, January 20, the
date on which the children returned from their prolonged vacations. All
returned with a lot of new energy and desire to study. The school year
started January 21.
For this year we have: - Five children in secondary in the grade’s 6, 8 and 10. - Two in validation - Ten children in primary. |
|
The lives of the children have changed, and
they are already responsible for their duty as individuals; We have also
been able to see an improvement in the family relationships as they are
becoming stronger.
It is our prayer that God captures the hearts of the children and with their example that of their families. |

There have passed eight interesting months and God has given honor to the name that identifies us: Ebenezer. |

As a leader I had the opportunity
to be in a congress for missions in December where they helped us to confirm
the faith and the vision of this ministry.
At Christmas and new years the girls visited family and people that support them. In this new year, we continue depending on God and on those whom God uses to help in His purpose. |
|
We received
the visit of Borje and his group of companions, enjoying their company
in the Aero Park. The girls received gifts and pleasant moments. We are
using for the first time the blender and dining table. There are seven
girls and all are registered in school. A great help for us with the shifts
are the youths, Helen, Karin and Mónica.
Also we continue with the dressmaking class of Nímia, with the perspectives of knitting, music and ceramics. |

We welcomed the mothers and girls after a good
period of vacations February 4 of 2002.
|
Twelve beautiful months have passed of having
begun this ministry, and it is something wonderful to know God and to
make Him known, that is the most important thing. Using as strategy handicrafts
and dressmaking one can be discipled more personally.
|
|
|
It is through daily sharing, where one can
know the problem of these women and girls. It is there where a loving
and wise word arrives deep from the heart. Thanks to the workshop, they
have been able to develop talents in dressmaking and handiworks in this
neighborhood.
|
|
The lives of these women have changed, God
this doing the work. We have been able to achieve that the family relationships
have changed. This is our challenge as a ministry, because what we want
most is the restoration of the families, especially the families of the
children that we have at the moment in our institution.

We are happy and grateful to God for the new house that He has provided us with, it is beautiful and has lots of space. |
|
We begin a year with many satisfactions. From
January 3 untill the 19th we carried out two Mini-schools, one in Medellín
and the other one in Armenia.
Medellín; We had the participation of 53 students, children and youth, coming from different Churches, some children of pastors and local leaders. It was an intense and challenging time, but it was also a time of seeing God work in the heart of each one of them. Armenia; We have had the participation of 49 students, aged from 13 to 31 years old. This Mini-school was characterized as to have created a very strong yearning to be part of the Great Commission. This developed the vision to continue working as a group, and inspiring the local Church to work in unity. |

At this moment;
We are having the Discipleship Training School with the presence of 9 youth that have decided to qualify themselves and to obey the call of God which He has for each one of them. They are youth of different denominations and cities; Armenia, Montería, Bogotá, Ibagué, Leticia and Medellín. Our longing is to continue working in educating a generation that with its lifestyle full of principles and good values can develop a leadership role in society. |
