Who's Who in   I Claudius
[If you've come here looking for a family tree for HBO's Rome, the characters who are also on this page are: Julius Caesar, Atia, Octavian (later known as Augustus), Octavia, Marc Antony, Cleopatra, Livia, and (very briefly) Antonia. And now back to our regularly scheduled webpage...]

If you're like me, these sprawling family sagas are very confusing until you figure out how all the characters are related to each other. So here's the family tree for Robert Grave's I Claudius. Major characters are highlighted in green. Emperors are in BOLD CAPS. As the story starts, Augustus has been married to Livia for eight years, and they are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Battle of Actium where Marc Antony and Cleopatra were killed. I did some research to add in the earlier characters who don't actually appear in the series. This revealed that there are many other spouses and children who are not mentioned below or in the series.

? Caesar ?

Atius

Julia
JULIUS CAESAR

Octavius

Atia

Scribonia

AUGUSTUS
remarries to Livia
Octavia(1)
with Claudius(1)

Marc Antony

Cleopatra

remarries to Augustus

Claudius(2)

Agrippa

Julia
also marries Tiberius

Marcellus
Antonia

Drusus(1)

Now that wasn't so hard, was it?

Final Body Count: Back then, very few people managed to die of old age. Here's the list of murderers and their victims (although some were just "eliminated", not killed).
Livia
Claudius(2), Drusus(1), Marcellus, Julia, Agrippa, Germanicus, Gaius, Lucius, Postumus, Augustus (Don't eat the figs)

And you thought your family was disfunctional.
