Quick Notes: I won't make any reference to the manga simply because there is no romantic implications between any of the main characters. And the fact that not too many people know of the manga... so the references made will be from the official anime series and doujinshi. This article is written by ME, so it will be my opinions and if you don't like what I've written, well, sorry! Go somewhere else to indulge in whatever it may be.

As you probably know, SeijixNasutei are my favorite pairing in the YST series. In Japan they are *the* most popular hetero pairing within the fandom, having the most doujinshi based on this pairing that isn't yaoi-based. However, this particular pairing is not as popular overseas. In North America (or at least the United States) Nasutei is often paired with Ryo while Seiji is paired with a Mary Sue (overdramatic version of the fanfic author who created an original character) or one of the other Troopers. I admit I was a RyoxNasutei fan in the beginning, when I first started watching Ronin Warriors back in 1995; but honestly, it never stuck a real cord with me. I assumed the main character always got the girl. Ryo was the main guy and Nasutei was the main girl. Sounded natural that they'd go together, right? Well, after I watched the OVA Gaiden and looked at doujinshi based on Gaiden I stopped myself and said, "Hey, there's Luna and she likes Ryo and in a possible future, he may have liked her too!" So then I thought Nasutei and Shutendouji would go nicely together. I even wrote a lemon fic with a help of a fellow ShutenxNasuti fan at the time. Yet I quickly grew beyond that pairing and it wasn't until I started collecting YST doujinshi did I see what a nice couple Seiji and Nasutei made (at least through the interpretations of certain doujinshikas).

The doujinshi I've collected over the years don't have anything hardcore between Seiji and Nasutei (dammit) but they are nice stories about how they admit their feelings towards one another, or how these two get along in general. It was from viewing these comics did I start to think back to the anime, and how there were slight hints of possibilities for these two. Certain episodes paired the two of them together and while there was nothing romantic about any of the situations they were in, it was interesting to note how they acted toward one another. If you know Seiji's background, then you'd know that Seiji is uncomfortable talking to females. However, he was able to speak to Nasutei just fine and even referred to her on a first name-only basis; normally this is reserved for people you are really, really close to or someone you don't like and want to insult them. Or it could be that Nasutei insisted that he call her by name only, due to her rearing in France. Never the less, there have been official images (pictures drawn by the animators or featured in magazines) that have Seiji and Nasutei together. Not together-together but in a manner that suggests that there may be *something* possibly going on. One such image came from an Animedia magazine published in October of 1989 that showed images not used in the Kikoutei Densetsu OVA. Perhaps it was just an innocent stroll through the African plains, or maybe something more. In the YST CD Hana there's a group image and Nasutei and Seiji are standing rather close together. There have been more images of these two characters standing together than of Nasuti standing with any other of the Troopers.

While Nasutei acts like the big sister towards the Troopers, I can't see her treating Seiji in such a manner (thanks to Japanese doujinshi). I imagine her treating him as an equal, probably an action Seiji hasn't received from most females. In Nanpa Call Seiji is startled when the girl he tries to flirt with ends up proposing to him! It's situations like this that probably cause Seiji to back off from girls, because they see him as a handsome individual and play-thing. That and being reared as a girl AND the teasing from his older sister didn't help matters much. But Nasutei seems like an understanding person who would treat Seiji as anybody would want to be treated. In episode 7 of the TV series, he seems to admire Nasutei of her strength and nobility for someone she's barely known. In episode 11 and 12, Seiji expresses his dislike of mixing women and children with war. Never the less, Nasutei (and Jun) prove to him that they can be of use to him (and no, not just for bait).

So what if Nasutei's three years his senior? Seiji is among the maturest of the Troopers (next to Shin) and in my opinion he's best paired with Nasutei. Yaoi-wise, take your pick because I'm not really into boyxboy couples beyond SeijixTouma or RyoxShin. SeijixNasutei would look to be a very mature couple and an item that people may look up to.
