MAALEI SHLOMO

Status: Inhabited, recruiting
Contact: David Yisrael Halevy (david@kcholmim.org)

Description:

As we at K'Cholmim have said before, being part of K'Cholmim is not to be Dreamer (Cholmim), but rather to be As Dreamers K'Cholmim. There is no doubt that we at K'Cholmim have a dream, namely to realize the ideal Jewish society in Israel as laid out in the covenant between the Jewish Nation and the God of Israel. There are those who feel our idealism, passion, and love for Torah are naïve. We beg to differ. The Dream of K'Cholmim is not ours alone, it is the Dream of the entire Jewish People. And she is no fantasy, rather she is a dream unfulfilled, a potential not yet actualized.

The new Yishuv of K'Cholmim, and the merkaz klita we are setting up in the Binyamin area of Israel (yes, this was the ancient home of the Tribe of Benjamin) are to be our first major steps as we begin turning our ideas into actions. By having an absorption center for English speakers (there are none currently in Israel) we will make coming on aliyah and returning Home for those from English speaking nations that much easier, thus aiding in the process of kibbutz galuyot (the ingathering of the exiles).

The location of the yishuv is also ideal. Within working and school distance of Jerusalem (as well as Tel Aviv, though she is a bit farther), the yishuv is economically feasible for those with families and those who are in college, etc. We also will, God willing, have many members of our yishuv who will work within the area, either developing local businesses or farming projects. We at K'Cholmim believe it is important to help the Jewish People settle and work ALL of Eretz Yisrael, and not just a few square meters of her.

The new K'Cholmim yishuv is also privilagaed to have an incredible view. Standing 80 meters atop Kochav HaShachar, the most obvious view is of a quite 180 family yishuv lying below us. Looking further to the east, the northern reaches of the Judean Desert as well as the majortity of the Dead Sea are visible. The three main towers atop several of Jerusalem's hills are within view, as is the ancient hill north of the Judean Desert that served as a signaling station during the times of the Babylonian Exile. (Fire and smoke used to sent out as a signal from Jerusalem when the new month appeared, and this giant pointed mountain to our east was the first main station along a path that traveled over a thousand miles to the ancient exiled Jewish community of Babylon).

There is a school for both boys and girls in Kochav HaShachar serving the needs of the majority of the yishuv. No highschools are in Kochav HaShachar itself, but a Talmud Torah school exists in Michmash (a ten minute trip), which is where most of the children go. For those who are more charedi, there are options for schools both in nearby yishuvim (such as the Talmud Torah), or if that is not seen as desirable, Jerusalem is within schooling distance. A Rav Kook based school system exists within Kochav HaShachar. There are also several shuls within the main yishuv, including one Sephardi and one Ashkenazi. There is a makeshift shul in a double caravan atop our new location already, which is where we would be davening.

There is already decent public transportation to and from the site. About 5 to 6 buses run a day between Kochav HaShachar and Jerusalem. We are within a safe walking distance of Kochav HaShachar (about 25 minutes), but do not need to walk that far to get to a bus stop. We would be requesting one additional bus going back to the yishuv late at night (around midnight) to make it easier for singles to get to dates and others to enjoy a night out in Jerusalem.

In order to help make this yishuv more attractive we have obtained, FREE HOUSING (no taxes either) for the first year of residence, FREE LAND (in the form of 2 dunam per person - 1/2 acre - if you stay past one year, this land can be used to build the house of your design and dreams). The housing that is free comes in the form of larger caravans (3 rooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom).

This is the opportunity of a life time! This is Zionism. Helping the Jewish People to make aliyah, and helping the Jewish People to reclaim our heritage and destiny, as we lay claim to our God given sovereignty over the majestic rocky hills of Binyamin, the heartland of Biblical Israel. All who are interested should send us their name, phone number, and email along with any questions you have to YISHUV@KCholmim.org
