We are former federal Reform Party activists, disillusioned provincial Liberals and other non-aligned individuals, who believe in ethical, accountable and democratic people-first-politics.
We believe that we need a brand-new provincial political party in the Province of Ontario, which believes in a bottom-up policy development process, where the party leadership is bound by its grassroots members, unlike the traditional parties where policy is enforced by the leadership, their selected special-interest groups and the party's elite backroom.
We started the Ontario Alternative in the Reform tradition of positive change, exemplified in our provincial history by leaders such as William Lyon Mackenzie's Reform Party of Upper Canada in 1828, Ernest Charles Drury's United Farmers of Ontario in 1914 and Agnes Campbell Macphail's Cooperative Commonwealth Federation in 1943.
Yours to Reform and Represent,
From the Founding Members of the Ontario Alternative
Our 5 Basic Principles towards Reforming and Representing all Ontarians, which can and do transcend polarized traditional party lines and the invalid ”left-right” spectrum are the following:
1 - FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY - eg. Balanced each and every Governmental Budget, Reduced Governmental Debt and Deficit, Controlled Parliamentary Spending, More Effective, Efficient and Equitable Corporations of the Crown, Maximum Taxpayer Protection, and Reform Taxation to the Minimum for Complete Relief.
2 - SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY - eg. Curing our ailing Health Care, Education and Energy, Protecting the Life, Liberty and Property of all people, Strengthening the Ontario Family Unit, Preserving Language, Heritage and Culture, and Positive Alternatives to the failed Welfare State.
3 - ENVIRONMENT RESPONSIBILITY - eg. Conserving Water, Land and Air, Liberating Peoples Choices on what they Use, Supporting Locally Made Foods and Drink, and Creating Electricity from Hydrogen, Wind, Solar, Photovoltaic, Geothermal, Biomass, Biodiesel and Bioethanol for Natural Renewable Energy Sources as Potential Future Replacements.
4 - DEMOCRATIC ACCOUNTABILITY - eg. Reform of all Provincial Institutions such as the Legislative Assembly, Election of Ontario Senators, Selection of Ontario's Lieutenant Governor so they are more Representative of, Responsible for, and Democratically Accountable to the People of Ontario.
5 - REFORMED CONFEDERATION - eg. Rebalancing between the Provincial and Federal Governments to Better Serve all Canadians and Ontarians Freely and Fairly, Equality of Citizens, their Dominion and its Confederation through Renewed Democracy in their Political System and its Political Representatives, and Reform of the Confederation through an idea known as Reconfederation.
Our interim policies and principles all are taken from every major Reform-oriented provincial party across the Dominion of Canada (eg. Action Démocratique du Québec, Alberta Alliance, Democratic Reform British Columbia, Nova Scotia Party, Reform Party of British Columbia, Saskatchewan Party and the Yukon Party), the Reform Association for Ontario (1995) and the Reform Party of Canada (1999) as well as other Reform-minded individuals.
