What We Use

OK, so you've read my spiel on all the equipment you should get and what you need and all that jazz. This page shows you what goalies are actually using. And feel free to e-mail me and tell me what you use, so I can put it on this page too!

Britta's Kit

OBO ROBO Legguards and Kickers

These are a new addition. I used to use some OBO promites (the lowest level of OBO) supplied by my club, but I started to get some serious bruises, and I after much begging, I got these for Christmas. They were really expensive, but I absolutely love them. Mind you, I'd better, because after the bill, I will never be able to buy another set of legguards and kickers ever again!! The movement in these is absolutely fantastic, the level of protection can't be beat, and they are seriously good quality! A girl in my club got some TK2 legguards and kickers after I got my OBOs, and her kickers are already a complete mess and covered in duct tape. My kickers are still good as new, without about the same ammount of play!

Hespeler Ice Hockey Pants

I used to use Vic hockey pants, but I accidentally broke the tightening strap, and they kept falling down. So, I switched over to my sister's old pair of Hespelers. They work well, although I miss my Vics! :-( These aren't the most flexible of things, but There is a lot of thigh protection.

Ice Hockey Body Armour

This stuff is supplied by my club. It's a rather bulky chest + arm protector set. It does make it a tad hard to move, but as I've been hit in the elbow a few times, and the club equipment is assigned, I don't really have much of a choice, now do I? It works, anyway.

Williamson Foam Gloves

These are some OK foam field hockey gloves. They belong to my club. Last year I had some awesome TK foam gloves, but this year I got the Williamson ones. They are square-shaped so they make diving a real pain, and the left-hand protector has a really small surface area, but they have good shock absorption. And the right hand one practically forces you to hold your stick properly. They're usable, but I'm actively seeking a new pair. They're icky colours too: orange and dark green!!

Itech Junior Ice Hockey Goalie Mask

OK, I was a complete dork and used to use a road hockey helmet that I got for about $20 at Walmart. Well you get what you pay for: I was pegged in the head by a ball, and left with a massive dent in the grill. So I recently (with the financial help of my parents) got a new Itech helmet. It's got an awesome design on it, and I am very confident with the level of protection I'm getting! The only drawback is that I'm having a very hard time getting used to the square "traditional" grill. There is one bar that is directly in my sight-line, but other than that, I really love this helmet!

Sneakers!

I just had to throw these in! I have a pair of sneakers dedicated to field hockey. Some goalies wear cleats, and I have some, but I find that all they do it get caught in my kickers and make my feet sore. So phooey on cleats!

Protex Female Pelvic Protector

I just recently started wearing a jill, and contrary to my previous thoughts it doesn't hold back my game at all. The one I use is brilliant as I can't even feel it when I'm playing, yet it really does protect. You really have to use spandex shorts when wearing it though, as otherwise it's a nightmare to get on and off without showing the world your underwear (my friend has a nicer one with a velcro in the back, which makes it easier to get on and off). Very comfortable, and you can remove the inners from the guard so it can be washed properly in your washing machine.

Konika Stick

Basic student-model field stick. AKA 'Good Ol' Stick'. It's just a regular field hockey stick. Actually, scratch that: it has magic powers!

Junior's Kit:

Nike Tiempos Cleats

"They are a nice to wear and the cleat pattern on the bottom is arranged perfectly to hold onto Robo Kickers."

OBO ROBO Legguard and Kickers

"I have Robo Legguards and Kickers which I had to Kiss a lot of Butt to get and now I am missing out on about 3 birthdays and Christmases... They are a wonderful thickness and weight and Really improved on My old OBO Elites which were wearing thin..."

Cooper Padded Shorts

"I have Cooper padded shorts which are just about stuffed but they'll do until I can afford some Robo Cling-ons"

Brabo Chest Protector

"I have a Brabo chest protector which is good for now... Its supposedly international level but I don't trust it because the design isn't really well planned out and when I got hit in The chest I got the wind knocked out of me... people say The Robos don't let that happen even..."

OBO Body Armor

"I have old OBO Shoulder and Arm guards, they are quite good but bits of foam are falling out particularly where the end of the gloves are... I've only been hit there once though so that's Ok..."

OBO Gloves

"I have the Robo Gloves, They are wonderful... I suggest anyone planning on moving into senior grades to try to get their club to purchase some of these because they are great... or For a cheaper alternative, go the 2nd highest level, Cloud 9 gloves still By OBO."

OBO Throat Protector

"My OBO throat protector... My dad bought one of these while my brother was representing his school... He lent it to their keeper, they put it on too tight and the Velcro eventually tore the material... Its still good though... I haven't been hit there yet thank god..."

Cooper Helmet

"I've been hit a few times on this beast.. which means I'm just about ready to upgrade it to a ROBO CK with a custom paint job of Flames..."

KiDDy'S Kit

OBO ROBO Legguards/Kickers

"These are brand new (haven’t had a chance to play in them yet, but they felt good when I was breaking them in)."

OBO Yahoo Smarty-pants (old-style)

"These are not good for flexibility they are basically a slap of foam covered in material, and they could do with some inner leg protection. They will do until I can afford to replace them. (can’t ask parents, they just dished out heaps to but my legguards and kickers)."

OBO Cloud9 Body Armour

"Very good, great protection like it a lot."

OBO Yahoo Foam Gloves

"Pretty good, a big improvement on the horrible gloves I had before. They will do for about one more season then they might be a wee bit thin to hold up to those hard shots (we will see)."

OBO Senior Throat Protector

"Good, gets hot though."

OBO Junior Helmet

"Great for juniors. I’m starting to doubt if it will protect me now, but it will have to do for this season at least. I would love a OBO CK (or an ABS) helmet, but I may need to use a cooper one for a few years because OBO (while the best brand around) is expensive."

OBO Cloud9 Pelvic Guard

"Good protection and design."

Braxer001's Kit

TK1 Legguard/Kickers

"They're rather good, give reasonable rebound, only the legguards tend to twist when sliding... In general I like them."

TK1 Gloves

"Good gloves, a bit worn out now, they have less protection than they use to, but the rebound hasn't changed much. I just love the shape of the right hand, it works really well."

TK Protective Pants/Overpants

"Real improvement VS my old pants, they really protect me. They are a bit hot though, certainly in the summer ..."

Mazon Throat Protector

"The type you wrap around your neck, never been hit there, is really hot, but I think it boosted my self-confidence a bit because it's one less spot you can get hit... makes you less 'afraid'."

TK Chest Protector + Arm Guard

"Barely been hit there, it worked perfectly when I did get hit there, is really thick, the arm guard is also good."

OLIE Helmet

"A Canadian brand of helmet, sort of an ice hockey helmet, only wider, works real good, been hit on it and haven't felt it. Also has a rather big throat protection zone on it."

Stick

"I'm currently using an old stick of mine, because my mazon black magic broke in two pieces after only 2 months and  a half... still waiting for a new one (since the beginning of January)."

Grays G400 Astros

'These give real good grip, and lots of support for my feet. I can also just kick a ball with them on and barely feel it (a non-moving ball that is)."
