the unexplained
A bump in the night. A mysterious light hovering just over the horizon. A chill on a warm summer day. Crops circles. Warnings of danger from invisible sources. The Bermuda Triangle. What do all these things have in common? They are unexplanable events that take place around us everyday. Whether you are believer in such phenomenon or not, we must all agree that there are many things that defy all attempts at rational explanation.

One such accounting of the unexplained follows:  A mother was outside in her garden enjoying the sunshine and warmth of the summer day. Her hands worked steadily in the soil, tending her vegetables and flowers, cultivating life. Suddenly, she was stricken with an insurmountable grief. Her hands began to shake uncontrollably, and she began to sob. Softly, in her ear, her only daughter's voice broke through to her conscious mind. "I love you, Mom," she heard her child say. "How can this be," her mind questioned. Her daughter was hundreds of miles away, attending school. Immediately, she realized something was terribly wrong. At that instant, the telephone rang. It was the police. Her daughter had just been found, murdered, by the side of the road.

In another accounting, a man and his wife were travelling down a deserted road in the middle of the night. Up ahead, standing in the middle of the road was a young woman. The wife urged her husband forward, but seeing the distraught state of the young woman, he stopped and offered help. "My baby," she cried, and pointed toward a stretch of crumpled guardrailing. The man seated the young woman in the back of his car with his wife, and headed down the steep embankment toward the crashed car. He saw two bodies, obviously dead, in the front seat, but turned his attention to the baby in the back. He worked for several minutes before freeing the child, and was thankful to find it alive. Quickly, he climbed the embankment and ran toward his car with the child. The young woman was nowhere to be found. Fearing she had followed him back to the crash site, he scaled the embankment once more. This time, he noticed more closely the two bodies in the front seat of the car. On the passenger side, was the young woman who had flagged he and his wife down to save her baby.

Coincidence? Intuition? How do you explain such events?

Scientists have, for years, been trying to determine a rational explanation for the crop circle phenomenon. The mysterious patterns occurring in large fields under the cloak of darkness - their intricacy and detail far more advanced or ancient than we can even begin to phathom. In one televised accounting, several men set out to 'prove' that crop circles could be created by human means, without leaving behind any trace of their having been to the site. Time lapse photography followed the men through the night carefully following a pattern they had sketch beforehand.

Are crop circles merely hoaxes, or are we just not ready to accept the other alternative?

UFO's have long been a source of debate in the scientific community. Many people believe that the government's insistant disregard of UFO sightings is a conspiracy to cover-up secret military manuevers. Others insist that UFO's are real and that they have been abducted for testing or other extra-terrestrial contact.

Government conspiracy? Alien visitation?

Whatever your stance on these issues, the fact that there is ongoing debate suggests our inability to rationally explain any of these events. They take place everyday in our world, and we may have to accept the fact that we will never be able to understand them.
