Welcome to the NEW Young Mothers Unite website! The original Young Mothers Unite was created in 1995 and I believe it was the first of it's kind. Becoming a young mother myself at the young age of 17 in 1983, I felt alone and unsupported by a community that looked down on me. This led me to create YMU to offer the much needed support to other young mothers throughout the USA. In June of 2000 YMU hit it's all time high with thousands of visitors and guest book signings, due to my letter being posted in the Geocities World Report. During that time YMU gained a lot of recognition and acquired new members from all over the world creating the most popular and diverse support community for young mothers online. YMU has taken on many different looks since then, with several layout changes as well as new graphics with my growth as a graphic designer. After my return to college several years ago, and my inability to maintain the site properly, I opened it to the public. A good portion of the site was private and for members only, to protect the community of young mothers that once came here for support on a regular basis. Now, anyone can read and browse through the many pages of YMU. In allowing anyone to view the once private areas of the site, it has been my wish that young girls wanting to get pregnant will think twice about it after reading stories from YMU members. This will also give more insight into the minds, goals, and dreams of young mothers, and hopefully help to change the common and unfair stereotypes of the average curious reader. YMU still offers many things to it's visitors: Book lists, Articles, Advice to young/teen mothers, Advice to young girls wanting to get pregnant, An in depth look at a Young Mother's life through personal questionnaires, and much more to come now that I'm bringing it back to life in 2006! Take a walk through YMU and get to know a few of the hundreds of members that once were a vital part of this community.
