History:

Freddy Freeman is an all around kid, good in school and at sports. He's something of a flirt and was even smart enough to once make his way into the Statewide spelling bee competition. Both Mary Bromfield (her real name is Mary Batson...Billy Batson's sister, a fact unknown to either of them at the time...) and Freddy lost to Percival Pill in the competition. Freddy used to play on the Binder High School's baseball team, the "Marvels", until the fateful day he and his grandfather went on a fishing trip fishing after a small get together with Freddy's teammates.

As a way to celebrate Freddy's helping the Binder Marvels win their big game, his Grandfather took him fishing. Enjoying themselves thoroughly, their outing was disturbed when Freddy heard what he thought was thunder. Mere seconds- and a near collision- later, Captain Nazi plowed into the water next to them. The villain had been struck by Captain Marvel and flung several miles through the air , landing in the lake where he began to drown. Freddy helped his grandfather back into their capsized boat before diving in to rescue the drowning man, not suspecting what a price he would pay for his act of kindness.

With his grandfather's help, Freddy got the unconscious Nazi into their boat but before they could reach shore, Captain Nazi awoke and struck the elder Freeman, hitting him hard enough to send him spiraling hundreds of feet through the air. Freddy tried desperately to defend his grandfather but was also slung aside. Both Freddy's back and leg were damaged from the throw; if not for the timely arrival and intervention of Captain Marvel, Freddy would have struck the ground hard and shared his grandfather's tragic fate.

Freddy's grandfather passed away shortly after being pulled from the water. Freddy was left grief stricken, and with serious injuries.
Taking the injured Freddy before the Wizard Shazam, Captain Marvel (Billy Batson) and Mary Marvel (Mary Batson Bromfield) begged the old wizard to heal their hurt friend. Shazam informed them that it was not within his power to do and so they left his presence, taking their broken friend back to his hospital bed only to have Captain Nazi arrive on the scene, there to finish his business of killing Freddy. If not for Mary Marvel's interference, Nazi would have easily slain the wounded youth and made good his escape. Still, when Nazi fled, he took poor Freddy with him.

Nazi is soon caught off guard by Captain Marvel, a fight ensues and ends with Captain Marvel kicking mucho butt on Captain Nazi, subduing him for the time being. Mary Marvel then takes Freddy back to the Wizard, telling Shazam that she has figured out what he meant by "It is not within MY power" to heal their friend, that she knows that if she and Billy share their power with Freddy, he will be healed.

Captain Marvel showed up just a little too late to save the day; Freddy's grandfather was killed and Freddy himself was near death. Feeling just a tinge of remorse, Cap brought Freddy to the wizard Shazam and asked if there wasn't something that could be done to help Freddy. Shazam prescribed a jolt of the ol' magic lightning. When Freddy awoke, he exclaimed, "It's Captain Marvel!" Zap! By saying the name of his hero, Freddy became Captain Marvel, Jr. (and curiously, the only superhero on record who can't say his own name without switching identities). Freddy, now a hero like the Batsons, is named Captain Marvel Junior by Mary Marvel.

Freddy's costume is similar to Captain Marvel's, except that his costume is blue, instead of red. Captain Marvel Junior has renamed himself "CM3" - a name that he can actually pronounce. MC3's power levels depend on if he has sole access to the source of his powers that he shares with Captian Marvel and Mary Marvel.  If two of them were in their superhuman forms, each of them would have "half" of the power of Zeus and the other abilities.
