Rays Spring Training 2004 - at Phillies

I went to see the Rays at the new Phillies Spring Training Stadium (also home to the class A Clearwater Threshers). The stadium is absolutely beautiful and very adequate bathroom facilities (always a great selling point). I missed my old Progress Energy Field - they put the bullpen in the outfield (WHAT in the HECK am I supposed to watch the game the whole time????!?! I need to have some bullpen action! At least later in the game, after he had pitched, Rob Bell ran right in front of me all sweaty and ... yowzers... all I can say is Thank You, Rob Bell. :) ) and I was in the middle of a row of 26 (ugggh just think 83 degrees and loud drunkos). I was pretty annoyed when they put skanko Hooters girls on both sides of the field... but then I realized it was like the big Bull at the Durham Bulls Stadium - Knock down a Hooter Girl with a line drive and get 25 free wings!!! I was really rooting for the boys to win those free wings. (Seriously tho, who's genius idea was it to put totally inept girls on the field to catch foul balls? Nice lawsuits you have brewing there and not so family friendly if you ask me...) Oh well, the ballpark was really nice beside that and I got some really good photos... I still love my Rays home at Progress Energy... just more fun. Hope you enjoy the photos... they are a little Rocco Baldelli filled, but I don't really think that's such a bad thing! -- Annie

The Phillies New Spring Training Stadium Pete La Forest
The Phillies New Spring Training Stadium and the lovely Rays warming up on the field - that's Carl Crawford closest to the camera. Pete La Forest...I sorta cut off part of his head, but eh, who's really gonna notice? :)
Damian Rolls Gotta Go!
Damian Rolls - Damian always gets a "Yeah, We Love Damian Rolls!" He always hustles, works his butt off, comes through with the miracle save catch, and seems to be the most reliable in the pinch. And then you have him with the fans - he is always sweet and goes out his way for the fans. Damian, you are a true asset to our team! Rocco Baldelli - normally, I wouldn't post this photo because I respect Rocco, but it was just too funny to pass up. Does anyone else look here and think of the commericial "gotta go, gotta go right now..." Honey, I think there might have been a bathroom in the clubhouse. :)
Rocco Baldelli Tino Martinez and Jeff Blum
Rocco Baldelli - I swear that this boy always poses for me! I always get the best photos of Roccos... must be his cool mystique. :) Tino Martinez and Geoff Blum - I was very upset with this whole Geoff Blum thing (I mean come on we traded Brandon for him!) and then he totally impressed me... I was at a game and the lady sitting in front of me got drilled in the knee by one of his drives... After he batted he was out of the game and walked out to make sure that she was okay and when she looked bad he went and got one of his bats for her. Granted the lady's husband took custody of bat, but Blum was really great about the whole thing.
Rocco Baldelli and Julio Lugo Rocco Baldelli
Rocco Baldelli and Julio Lugo - I love this photo. Rocco turned his face just as I took the photo and Lugo is just amusing in the background. Rocco Baldelli - I just love the way that Rocco looks with a bat... it just so natural. Oh yeah and as I stated before, I just love photographing Rocco. It's fun to know that I've gotten to document just a snipet of the beginning of a great career... oh yeah and I just adore Rocco because he put a little smiley on an autograph for me a couple of years ago... I'll covet it because I'm never going to be able to get anything signed by him ever again! Rocco fans are nutty! :)
Warmups Tino Martinez, Rocco Baldelli, and Geoff Blum - Another really interesting photo of Rocco, Tino looks a little spastic in the background, and Blum just looks totally snickerity (aka sniggering like Muttley).
