Biking Trails in the Jemez

The Jemez is a huge area, and there's a ton of biking I don't know about. These are just a few of the trails worth exploring.

1. Dome Road Area

Technical difficulty: 2+
Physical difficulty: varies
Elevation gain/loss: varies
varies - lots of singletrack, lots of dirt road

This area, reached by driving along the Dome road, contains tons of motorcycle-built singletrack and interesting dirt roads. Very worthwhile exploring.
The best available trail in this area is an MX trail that parallels (vaguely) FR 289 (Dome road) on the left. To get onto it, park at graduation flats (the large, fenced-off meadow with a parking lot that you reach after driving ~3-4 miles on 289 off of NM highway 4) then ride north on the road to the right of 289 (as you face back the way you came). After about 1/4 mile, there will be a singletrack on the right. Take it! I've gone about 6 miles on this trail and not found the end, it rules!

2. Las Conchas Area

Technical difficulty: 2+
Physical difficulty: varies
Elevation gain/loss: varies
All singletrack

There are several trails starting at or near the Las Conchas fishing/hiking area. The trail in the canyon bottom isn't really suitable for bikes - you'll disturb all the hikers and fishermen, and you'll spend a lot of time carrying your bike across log bridges. But the trails above the canyon (some can be reached by parking at the cross country ski area) are worth exploring. Fun, smooth singletracks.
