Guided Tour Of Purcellville On W&OD

In 1914 a fire destroyed most of the buildings in Purcellville's downtown. The fire destroyed most of Purcellville's oldest buildings, but the town is very active in historic preservation. The Purcellville Preservation Association has restored an 19th-century fireman's skating rink, a spring house on the eastern edge of town, and the railroad station. Today it is the largest business town in western Loudoun County. In 1939 the railroad abandoned the tracks to Bluemont on the Blue Ridge; Purcellville became the railhead.
