Winter is good for coat

The double coat of the Malamute is an important characteristic to dog's survival. Malamutes develope a dense undercoat giving them a massive look during winter time. The coat in cold weather is oily and coarse. The coat can't be too long nor soft as these conditions will make it prone to collect snow and keep the moisture. A dog with such a coat cannot survive in extreme arctic conditions.
