Meet Our Climbers

Five OSAT members particpated in the expedition.

Rik A (Base Camp-home page) (e-mail) has been involved with OSAT since its inception, and was a member of the OSAT Board 1995-96. A member of the Boeing Alpine Society (BOEALPS) and the American Alpine Club , Rik has climbed Rainier 6 times (out of 10 attempts) on 3 routes, Mt. Hood 3 times on 2 routes, and summited numerous other peaks over 10,000 ft, including the highest peaks in Wyoming, Montana, New Mexico, California, and Colorado. His only previous experience above 15,000 feet was a climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro in 1973. Rik was the climbing leader for CASE 97: Aconcagua and his reflections on the climb are available online.

Lisa M has been involved with OSAT since 1993 and is the past chairman of the OSAT Board. Over the past four years she has hiked and climbed all over the State of Washington. Some of her summits include Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams (twice), Mt. Baker, Mt. St. Helens (numerous times), and Mt. Rainier (twice). Lisa was also a member of the successful OSAT Kilimanjaro Expedition in 1995 where she summited with the rest of the team, and she is a graduate of the Tacoma Mountaineers climbing course. Roy O has been an OSAT member since 1995 and is currently a member of the OSAT Board. His major summits include Mt. Rainier, Hood, St. Helens, and Little Tahoma. Roy is also an active cyclist, runner, and a member of Seattle Mountaineers . Roy handled CASE 97: Aconcagua finances. Roy's report on the climb is also available online.

Bill L joined OSAT in 1994. Since joining he has climbed Mt. Rainier, Adams, St. Helens, Hood, and numerous other Cascade summits. Bill was a member of the OSAT Kilimanjaro expedition in 1995. When he is not climbing, he still spends time in high places, hanging under his paraglider or teaching skiing. This summer Bill paraglided from the summit of Mt. Baker. He also sails on Puget Sound. Bill worked on food and supply planning for the climb.

Rod B joined OSAT in 1994, and brought to OSAT extensive prior mountaineering experience. Rod worked with Bill on food and supply planning.
