Women Military Reenactors Workshop

                                     

 

A Women's Military Reenactors Workshop is being held April 1-3, 2005 at West Virginia University's Jacksons Mill Historic area, about 20 miles South of Clarksburg.

The Women's Military Reenactors Workshop is designed to help those female Civil War reenactors who want to recreate the role of female soldiers, (including infantry, artillery and cavalry) vivandieres, or military physicians/corpsmen/nurses in a manner that shows respect to our original counterparts.

Instruction will be provided in disguising as a male, the basics of infantry drill, mounted cavalry, artillery, signal corps drill, medical impressions, campaign camping, and the vivandiere impression.

Pre-registration: $30.00 until Feb 1.  $50.00 from Feb 1 to March 1.  Registration is CLOSED after March 1.  ABSOLUTELY NO WALK-ON’S.

*$5.00 out of every registration fee goes to the Jacksons Mill Historic area. The remainder of the fee will be used to reimburse instructors for travel and workshop supplies.

 The workshop is open to female veterans of reenacting and beginners who want to explore what impressions are open to them other than traditional feminine 19th century roles. It is also open to those male comrades who support these women in their endeavors.  Security will be tight and pre-registration is a must.  NO ONE will be admitted as a "walk-on".

Participants are encouraged to set up military camps. (water, wood, straw, shower facilities and a cornmeal ration are all available without charge)  On-site lodging is available at the Jacksons Mill Lodge and in dormitory style cabins. (The cabins are set up for dormitory style living with room for up to 18 perople. There is a requirement for at least 8 people per cabin in order to use one.)  The cost for one of the lodge rooms is $50.00 per night (not including taxes) and the cost for a cabin is $16.00 per person/per night (not including taxes.)  Modern camping is also available with or without hookups (With hookups $15.00 per night. Without hookups $10.00 per night not including taxes) There are also fairly local motels and restaurants for those who don't have the equipment to camp.

THE INSTRUCTORS
The instructors are women who portray their representative roles and men who not only support women in the ranks if done correctly, but who want to help the workshop participants develop the skills that will enable them to field with self-assurance. They are listed in alphabetical order. The list of instructors will be updated as they are added to the schedule.
