THE GOSPEL MISSION IS:
What Makes it Gospel:
A group of Bible-believing, Christ-loving people who want to provide help to the needy-especially the substance abuser-tell about and demonstrate Christ's love to each man who comes through our doors.

The lord Jesus said...
"He hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, He hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are crushed by the calamities of the world."    (Luke 4:18)
We provide not only for the physical needs of the man, but our concern is more for the spiritual needs of the individual.
We deal with man's problem of sin. The Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ is the only thing that can cure man's problem of sin. The Lord Jesus came all the way from heaven to this earth just to die for our sin and take the place we deserved. By doing this He provided a way for us to go to heaven and live with Him for all eternity. Furthermore, we believe when one recieves Christ as Savior, eternal life in Christ begins. A brand new life and a new lifestyle begin.
This is why our program provides spiritual counseling and requires attendence at a morning Bible study at 8:00 am and at an evening Gospel hour at 7:30 pm.

"Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection and the life; he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live. And whosever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.Do you believeth this?
                            (John 11:25-26)
The Gospel Mission Provides....
A dormitory-style residence for both long-term and emergency shelter for homeless men. Three meals per day are served. Bedding, toiletries, clothing and laundry service are also provided.
Financial Concerns:
The bulk of our funding comes directly from the lord's people. Gifts and donations are recieved from Christians all over the country.

"But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."    (Phil. 4:19)
Our Purpose:
To provide food, shelter and clothing for homeless men in a safe and clean living eviornment, where the Word of God can be preached and the love of Christ can be shown.
Eligibility:
Homeless men only; must be ambulatory. All are subject to a screening interview. Referals are recieved from local churches, police, institutions, families, walk-ins, Department of Social Services, individuals, etc.
Men cannot be intoxicated or on illicit drugs at time of referral.
Is There a Cure for Substance Abuse?
We believe that the only way a substance abuser can recover and return to a normal way of life is through total abstinence.
We further believe that the power of the ressurected Christ will keep a person dry and drug free day by day. If an individual willingly surrenders his life to the Lord Jesus Christ, allowing Him to take control of one's body, mind, emotions and spirit, his life will dramatically change.

A BRIEF HISTORY
It all started back in the late 1960's with a Gospel outreach into the community that spawned an evangelistic Bible study. this effort primarily reached those struggling with alcoholism. Soon those involved realized that there was more to the Gospel than preaching the words. These men needed food, clothing and shelter as they sober up.
The original building was located at 50 North Broadway and could house  12  men plus a bed for a staff member. This building was soon to be outgrown and a new location sought. In 1973 Yonkers Gospel Mission moved to it's present location at 191 North Broadway and can house 55 men.
During the late 70's the type of men that were coming into the mission was changing from the classic derelict to the drug abuser.
Today the Yonkers gospel Mission continues to serve homeless men in Yonkers, NY and surrounding Westchester County. The Mission is located just 12 miles from downtown New York City. Our board of directors is made up of 9 men from area Assemblies in New York and New Jersey. We have staff of our four and a few volunteers from our resident population that round it out very nicely.
