FAQ
Dear sir,
I live in Istanbul and I found your site while surfing for surf fishing
rigs. I have one pro question to ask, which I think you can give advice to
me. The main fish for the this season is Bluefish. I'm attaching a simple
drawing I had made to simulate the most common rig used for blue fish from
the shore in Istanbul. Even if I can cast a blank sinker above 120m, this
rig can be cast not more than 80m. I use a one side fillet of a bait fish,
and since the blue fish is finicky, I hide the two hooks into the flash of
the bait. I use a simple wine cork covered with aluminum fail to attract
attention.
I need an advice to improve my catch and to reach the fish far from the
shore. I tried to use impact shields which improved my overall cast distance
but had difficulties attaching the hook to the IS, and the bait was not
release from the IS. I need your rig suggestions and other knowledge you can
give.
Thanks for the help and

One thing to note, the hook would not really spook the fish. How big is the
size of the fish being targeted? I use Daiichi SOI Size 16 for fish up till
10kg. It is wiser to expose the hook tip so that there is a better hook set.
If the hook is hidden totally, the fish might spit out the bait after
encountering line resistance. Also, hiding the hook will not enable you to
clip down the bait. Try it, and let me know the catch report. By the way,
can you show me a picture of the bluefish that you are talking about? It
might be a different fish from what we know here.

Hi Melvin,
Thanks for the advices , it worked a lot. I've got over 20 pc. of bluefish
(Tailor in Australia) .. I use shimano new power aero as the fixed spool
reel, and a shimano surf leader FV 425CXT. I want to use a better rod but my
budget is not so high. I've look at the shimano surf rods and found very
valuable ones, but most are over priced for me. My budget is around 10-150
uds and plus a shipping. I want your surf rod advice which is a long caster
but a sensible rod tip to feel the shy bites of the fish. A 100 - 130gr
caster will be enough.
Thanks for your advice and help.

It's quite hard to predict a chart for fish seasons in Singapore. However, on a personal belief, I feel that one will encounter Threadfin Salmon more frequently in June-August, Barramundi in May-July & December. That is for shore fishing.
