HONDURAS
11th July 2004 - 19th July 2004
From La Palma in El Salvador we took the early bus to the border at El Poy.  The immigration office was in the same building which was made life nice and easy.  However, due to it being Sunday the queue took ages!  We changed some money with the usual sharks who know that you don't have the local currency so rip you off with an awful exchange rate!  Then off to Nuevo Ocotepeque to get a bus to San Pedro Sula, which took about 4 hours.  From here we jumped on another bus to Tela which is on the North coast of Honduras!  Not a bad journey in one day!  We stayed in a cheap hotel and found a cheap internet place which was rare for these parts.  We spent the evening burning photos and trying to get the web site up to date!  The following morning we spent another 4 hours each on the computers again and then made our way further to the East to La Ceiba to catch the ferry to Utila the following morning.  The ferry left at 8.30am and took an hour.  We looked into flying to the island and back as Utila was a long way out from where we were going but the cost was too much!  The bus and ferry was the only option!

Once in Utila we found a place to stay and a school to dive with, and then spent the next 5 days chilling and diving in some amazing places!  However all good things come to and end so on Sunday 18th we took the afternoon ferry back to the main land having completed our Advanced Open Water course!  Again we stayed in the same hotel in La Ceiba ready for the following morning's bus to the Capital, Tegucigalpa, where again we changed buses to head for the border.  Buses to the border seemed to be few and far between so we headed for a place called Danli where we hoped we would arrive in time to get to the border before closing time at 5pm.  Upon arriving at Danli at 4pm our only option was to take a taxi the remaining distance, just scraping across the border at 5.02pm having had to pay some creative immigration officials a few "extra" dollars in exit fees!

A bus then took us to our first stop in Nicaragua.
