The problem in this story starts when the first team sent into the Congo, by ERTS, to find Type IIB blue diamonds, is mysteriously killed.

Next, Karen Ross is assigned to find out what happened to the team. By reviewing a tape of their haunting murder.

Then, Karen Ross contacts Peter Elliot a primatologist whom teaches a gorila with a 600 "sign" vocabulary. She contacted him because she thought an image on the tape might have been a gorilla. However, he immedietly dismisses the idea.

After that, a new team is sent into the Congo,led by Karen ross and Peter Elliot. On the way to the Congo they stopped and convinced General Munro to be their guide, through the Congo.

The problem is solved when the new team finds out what killed the first team ninto the Congo, and the Type IIB blue diamonds.
